Oh, I know what you’re thinking. Yeah, you with the speedy finger tips! Put down your palms for a minute where I can see ‘em. Mario Kart’s Cowboy Jed isn’t done taking over your airwaves – now he’s circled the wagons right around the intaernet (that’s the British way of spelling it).
Up on the plate, we’ve got some pretty silly footage of Cowboy Jed doing his thing up on the Internet. It’s pretty obvious that Nintendo’s trying to make it look like it ‘leaked’, but, whatever. It’s still pretty damn funny. There’s a wacky montage of footage that I guess didn’t make it into the final commercial – and it had me laughing pretty hard.
I know that you Intaernet guys are all about remixing your videos and splicing in some footage of your cat missing the jump from the sofa to the kitchen counter – and interestingly enough, the ad wizards that came up with this one were kind enough to provide a big ol’ zip file full of readily-mixable files.
So, if you make any videos, send the link our way. We at the 4cr news desk love to hear it. Also, if you make any videos of me getting out of the shower, let me know.

So about this Mario Kart Ad…
What the hell happened, Nintendo? You were on such a great path of advertising to all ages, (especially games like this) and the Wii ads had been great with the two men in the smart car…
Then we get THIS steamy pile that takes me back to the awful treehouse VHS mailouts and those awful NOW YOU’RE PLAYING WITH POWER! Ads… Or the even worse PLAY OUT LOUD era.
Someone just had to get this out of their system before Wii Fit hit, I suppose.

I think the commercials are great. It reminds me of the pre-Wii Nintendo advertising. And in my opinion, Cowboy Jed is more likely to stick in your mind as you walk through you local games retailer than the weird guys in their “smart car”.

I’ve never heard of seen intaernet before.

Sigh, I blame the typo on Blue Shells.

@Namssorg
I disagree with you. The Wii Would Like to Play ads were good for Wii Play and Wii Sports, but terrible for Metroid Prime 3 and SMG. They didn’t show enough footage and really don’t appeal to the more hardcore players.
These ads DO remind me of pre-Wii ads. Like the brilliant Super Smash Brothers 64 ad. They are goofy, hilarious, and a lot of fun. I wouldn’t mind if they kept ads like this for MK type games, more serious ads for Metroid or Zelda games, and had the WWLTP ads for Wii Fit and things like that.

YES.

@RBELMONT
True that. WWLTP ads didn’t work that well for Metroid Prime 3. A game like that really needed advertising with more umph. I understand what Nintendo is trying to do with the guys in their car, traveling and spreading their Wii, but they aren’t always the best at getting the point across.
And these goofy commercials are always a good reminder that these games are just supposed to be fun.

The MK Wii commercials here in Australia (which play quite frequently I must add, along with a bunch of others for Prof Layton, Wii Fit, Galaxy and a general DS commercial with ACWW, Nintendogs and MKDS shown, used to be a lot for Wii Sports and Brain Training as well) are just the same as all other Wii commercials. About half of it shows a family playing the game, and half is in-game footage.

@006, RBELMONT,
True- the Wii ads may not work best for all types of games, although I feel that while this kind of ad stuck in my head (mostly because it was annoying) the only thing it did was cheapen the release of Mario Kart Wii for me. Certainly it left me with a negative feeling, because the only bit I remember about the commercial was that it was on par with the horrible car dealership ads. Nothing should ever parody those!!
Namssorg - 05.07.08 6:33 pm
The trouble with advertising Wii games might be that while most game advertising focuses on just showing the game and making you say “that looks cool, I want to play it.” Many Wii game ads like to show people playing the game, (especially now that they have this wheel.)
That’s fun too– as long as it doesn’t look like people are having WAY too much fun and flailing everywhere like they do when “gaming” on sitcoms or tv shows.
It’s when they try to throw in another element on top of all of it, (in this case a used car dealership theme) that it starts to feel like a Go-gurt commercial or something.
Namssorg - 05.07.08 6:37 pm
I guess these ads cater to those people who complained that lately the adverts contain only a few seconds of (YEEEHAAAAAWWW LOOK AT THE) FOOTAGE.

I actually can’t believe Nintendo did this. I mean, their commercials are usually really good, but this one has an insane viral internet video feel to it. It’s so funny (I can’t stop watching/laughing at the music video) it’s hard to believe it came from them officially.
IoN_PuLse - 05.08.08 3:00 am
I just saw this commercial for the first time on TV tonight and I thought it was rockin’. They made the commercial fun, thereby making the game fun. Mission accomplished by Nintendo.

I looked at the footage.

it reminds me of Wonder Showzen.
