Hello Player 1

Episode 4 of Famicom Dojo is ready to be viewed. In this episode a newly bearded SeanOrange talks about cartridges and pins. It sounds a bit dry but there is some fascinating information to be found. Do you know what the expansion port at the bottom of the NES is for? Have you ever wondered why that red light starts flashing on your system? Or why the Japanese release Castlevania 3 has so much better sound? The answers to these and many more questions can be found in this episode.

I specifically bought the Japanese version of Castlevania 3 for that very reason. It’s not even comparable.

He grew that beard JUST so he wouldn’t look like Zach Braff anymore.
Anyway, good show! I love the Famicom Dojos. It would have been cool to hear the difference in sound between the two castlevania 3 games though.

We plan to do another episode about the FM sound hardware and there will be plenty of examples of the sound variations. Zelda for the disc system for example sounds so much better.

I already know all of that, but I’ll watch this anyway.

There are actually NSF files for the two versions of Castlevania 3 floating around. I feel like zophar.net might have them.

Naw, I grew the beard deliberately so I could be mistaken for Dave Grohl.

My nes doesn’t flash red anymore
Best 10 minute mod ever!

You clipped the 10NES pins?
I’d read about that method, but I didn’t want to encourage people to start modding their systems. So much cooler to get an NES 2…
