Big surprise! This month, the 4cr crew has been playing Brawl, Brawl, and Brawl. They’re all crazy about it. I say ‘they’ because I don’t have it yet, a situation I soon hope to rectify. Read on to hear about what else we’ve enjoyed during the month of March, including a sad tale of Layton love and a stolen DS, and be sure to let us know what’s kept you busy, too.

Nick:

In March I was carving out time to play video games for the first time in months. What game was making this happen? Professor Layton. The game is amazing. The art direction is just absolutely fantastic and the characters are great. Combine that with a far more mature storyline than I was expecting and already we have a good game. Then add in those awesome SAT type puzzles and the game becomes solid gold. I also found out that many people in my office love puzzles, as I would read aloud a hard puzzle and have two or three other people eager to help me solve it.

Then some asshole stole my DS right off my desk one night. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to solve the case of the missing DS.

Mitch:

Brawl. I swear to God. The only video game I played for this entire month so far has been good ol’ Brawl. The only other game I’ve played and played and played for such a long period of time was Animal Crossing! I dunno about you guys, but, I’m enjoying the game a whole hell of a lot, and I don’t care who knows. Vinnk may be getting married to an ACTUAL woman, but who needs that when I can be wed to cold, unfeeling technology?

Am I right men? See, you know what I’m talking about.

Edgar:

Ok I like Brawl, but I haven’t been playing it alone. I haven’t tried online yet either. A friend and I have been playing through SSE in coop, I’m in love with that mode. I love the mix of platformer / figthing / cinematics. On weekends, I’ve been playing Culdcept Saga on the 360. Think Monopoly meets Magic the Gathering. On the MMO side, I decided to try Lord of the Rings Online. From what I’ve played so far, I’m really loving the game. Also, get Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the DS. It’s such a great game.

rbelmont:

Brawl. Brawl was pretty much my most anticipated game ever, and it definitely delivered and is now one of my favorite games ever. I also played some Godhand and No More Heroes. I can’t really say that I am a fan of the latter, but Godhand is one of the best beat ‘em ups ever. I recommend it to anyone that likes a good, combo heavy beat ‘em up. More recently, I started playing through Metroid Prime 2 again. MP2 is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. The exploration elements are fantastic, the boss fights are so much fun (unlike Prime 3), and Dark Aether with the light bubbles is such a fun area. And finally, on the handheld side of things, I finished Professor Layton, which wasn’t as good as I thought it’d be… I probably won’t even finish all the puzzles.

Jody:

Playing Brawl mainly, but also a good deal of Final Fantasy III SNES for the first time. It is awesome. I also got Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core but I haven’t played it much yet. I’m boring this month.

June:

Like the rest of the crew, Brawl has consumed a large chunk of my gaming schedule. I did start a new game of Summon Night 2, but that’s on hold. As much as I like RPGs, it’s easy to get burned out on them! The trailer for Sonic Unleashed raised a lot of hype, so I decided to pick up a copy of Sonic Mega Collection. Nick had his grand coming out this week, so here’s mine: during the days of Sega-Nintendo rivalry, I blindly picked a side. None of my friends owned a Sega console, so I passed over many years of blue hedgie fandom. My introduction to the series was an ancient Tiger handheld (think Game and Watch) starring Sonic. You pressed two buttons: one to move forward, and one to lunge at enemies. The real deal isn’t much different! I started the original Sonic the Hedgehog and it’s pretty fun stuff. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do!

Rumas:

Like I said, no Brawl. I spent March finishing up Super Mario Galaxy. Got all 120 stars, and had an absolute, total blast the whole time. Don’t get me wrong when I say I preferred Sunshine over Galaxy — the exploration and laid-back feel of the former spoke to me in a way few games ever have, but the ingenious design and pick-up-and-play fun of Mario’s latest 3D outing make it one of the finest games in existence, as far as I’m concerned. I have a feeling I’m going to go back in a couple months and play it all over again from start to finish.

In other news, I recently ordered the Arkanoid/Space Invaders Extreme Paddle Controller for DS, and I can’t wait until the package arrives. I have a feeling I’m going to be addicted.
