Due out this February, Jumper is a new film from director Doug Liman (Go, The Bourne Identity) based on the sci-fi novel of the same name by Steven Gould. The story revolves around jumpers – young people who can teleport at will — and secret government agents called paladins whose mission it is to kill them.
Hayden Christensen stars in the title role, and his Star Wars castmate Samuel L. Jackson plays the white-haired agent who’s out to get him. Though the odds are it’ll probably just end up being another empty Hollywood big-budget fiasco, I can’t escape the feeling that this one might actually turn out to be a bit different than the rest.
I’ve long have this hunch that the much-hated Anakin Starkiller is going to end up showing everybody he’s a really talented actor one of these days — word is he already did in this — and if the slick trailer is anything to go by, he looks like he has his act together.
Click below to check out the trailer and poke around at the official site, and make sure you have the volume up to hear the wicked ‘jumping’ sound effects. Kinda sounds like a podracer in fast-forward, creating a very cool effect. Overall, I’m cautiously optimistic.

“Hayden Christensen stars in the title role”
You lost me here.

Hayden Christensen was actually really good in Shattered Glass, and he had his moments in Revenge of the Sith. I think he was mostly pegged as a bad actor because of the god-awful love scenes in Attack of the Clones… but I don’t think anyone could have acted those out with conviction. Ugh.
Oh, and this movie looks pretty sweet, too.

Hayden was TERRIBLE in Shattered Glass. And this movie looks like crap. But honestly, I don’t think it is just Hayden. The premise for this movie is just pretty retarded.

I actually thought the trailer was pretty cool. Having all that freedom and power, what would you do? It’s an interesting premise. The movie may not end up being AAA class, but it won’t be terrible at all.

I, having read the book maybe a year or two ago, seem to hate everything that ive heard so far of the movie. I was SO ecstastic when I first saw the ads on myspace, so I watch the trailer, everybit of it was awesome up until “what? you think your the only one?” yeah. HE WAS THE ONLY ONE. in the book it was just “hey… i can friggin jump wherever i want… what would you do?” and then the movie goes and ruins that magic with this drawn out backstory on some cult thats been trying to capture the jumpers for forever. LAME. there goes awesome, spontaneous magic, here comes an inflow of cultic sci-fi action adventure. ITS BEEN DONE BEFORE, KEEP THE ORIGINALITY THAT WAS THE BOOK.
im done.

Disclaimer: I am optimistically willing to view any movie that involves the term “paladin” in any context.
That being said, I’m kinda looking forward to this.

@ LEMCOTT: I think you’ll have to wait a little while before passing any real judgement. They haven’t even revealed really what the full plotline is, or where it takes place in relation to the book. It could very well take place before or after the book for all we know. I doubt anyone would ruin such literature without at least justifiable reason/consolation.

Don’t hate the playa, hate the fucking director. As much as i love the star wars universe, Episodes 1-3 were ruined by Lucas’ boring script and hamfisted directing more than anything else.

Does this have anything to do with “The Tomorrow People”? Is it an American remake?

Oh, good, Doug Liman? I wish he had stayed in charge of the Bourne movies. That Greengrass’ camerawork was absolutely appalling.

You can’t blame Lucas for Christiansen’s flat/petulant delivery.
