I’m an Advance Wars fan just as much as the next guy. But I was still on the fence about my decision on getting AW: Days of Ruin when it comes out. Why? Because I wanted it to have an online mode.
Today, Intelligent Systems gave us more info on the upcoming sequel to Advance Wars: Dual Strike. They’ve stripped the series of some of the “features” that distracted the last one from the heart of the franchise. For example, they’ve removed dual screen battles, toned down some CO powers, and removed a few of the “advanced units”. Watering down some of the CO powers was a good move in my opinion, since some of them were just too effective, and I guess they had to make the online mode more balanced.
Speaking of online, it was announced that the game would come equipped with online wifi, local wifi and hot seat play. It’ll also support voice chat (better dig out my DS headset from that pile of dust) and a Map Center. The map center is a place to download and rate maps.

With the new direction the game’s going, I’m half expecting the subtitle to be renamed “Warrior Within.” I’m also expecting to hear an announcement that the soundtrack will consist solely of Godsmack.
All kidding aside, I’m really excited for this game.

I still think the main character looks like Light Yagami. Which will no doubt make it a bitchin’ game.

so when is this due for release again?

January or Feb I think?

January 21st, for all of you who are still in the dark…

Drat, one of my favorite parts of Advance Wars was seeing all the miniature soldiers playfully getting shot at by a megatank. In a way, it’s more disturbing than the beginning of Saving Private Ryan.
Meh, at least it’s online. Also, there’s been worse changes in artistic direction in the history of the DS *coughCastlevaniacough*

This game looks HOT!
And Kyattsuai, you have no idea how right you are. Dawn of Sorrow art = pure crap. Portrait looked better, but it still didn’t compare to Aria or Symphony.

I love Advance Wars as much as I can’t stand this new oh-so-much-more-realistic design.

This is still turn based, right? Cause I really can’t see how online multiplayer can possibly work, what with all that waiting around for the opponent to finish. And you know what? As great as Advance Wars is, its multiplayer sucks in general - once one person is winning, it is just a boring and frustrating hour until they can finally destroy their opponent.

because of the new art style, definitely not buying…
I was really looking forward to the next AWDS, especially the inevitable online.. but with this newspaper scribble art direction, I don’t want to play it at all.
old style was so much nicer, created such a neat and energetic mood.

I am so glad they finally smartened up and included online play. I was digusted and disappointed that the first DS game didn’t. Although it was still my favorite game. I hope this game lives up to the series. Only time will tell.

I don’t understand what’s so bad about the art style. The story is pretty much post-apocalyptic and that’s the message they’re trying to send through that art. To each is own, I guess.
Online play is definitely win, I can’t wait to destroy my friends online over and over again.

Yeah, I actually like the art style. I think it isn’t as good as the other games, but it is still nice.

There’s tons of online games that are turn based, I really don’t think it will be a problem.
I have no real impression on the art style. It seems significantly more generic, but if they’re going for something more sinister I suppose it works.

Awww!
I want cute and colorful, not muddy and depressing!
The colorful fun and humor and stuff was the only thing that got me through my frustration with my crappy strategy and playing ability.
