Even though Nintendo had no official presence at Tokyo Game Show, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto made a surprise appearance, stealing the show on the first day open to the public. 4cr and Powet.TV were there, which means you get to be too! Virtually, anyway.
YAY FOR SHIGGY!!!
this was awesome. i wonder how long its been since he’s played SMB?
Gotcha Force - 09.22.07 1:26 pm
I’m surprised he didn’t do that well in Mario. I mean he didn’t get hit or anything but it looked like a beginner playing that game. Even if you don’t play the original for many years, I find it is like riding a bike, you don’t forget.

“As one could guess, this was pretty much the greatest thing ever.”
Matthew(Someguy) - 09.22.07 1:35 pm
What the heck was that game at the end?
Geoff - 09.22.07 1:35 pm
mick: he was good at the game. his controls were very fluid and he only really messed up once.
broom - 09.22.07 2:00 pm
Game at the end = Ghouls n’ Ghosts, wasn’t it? Or is it Ghosts n’ Goblins? I always get them mixed up.
I still remember can’t believing that a Japanese man was the one that created Mario. I have to admit, it’s a bit “weird” seeing Miyamoto play his own game. It’s pretty surreal. I mean, I have some of the best memories with playing Mario games. Cool stuff.

Nice! Post the whole video please~

Just by watching him play, we can tell that Miyamoto is a completionist. Notice how he was careful to collect every coin and stomp every baddie.

there’s one man that could be considered the “gaming god”, this is the guy.
rokerovakero - 09.22.07 10:27 pm
lol u guize
I hope everyone realizes that Game Designer != Pro Gamer. Putting together something fun doesn’t necessarily require twitch reflexes and photographic memory. And in the case of Miyamoto and his life’s work, I think we can excuse some sloppy button-pushing in exchange for fun design that still holds up after 20 years.

I agree with Scypher. What exactly were you guys expecting, a blistering speed run? He played the game just fine.
However, that female announcer’s voice made me want to kill myself. Is there some kind of law that all Japanese women have to sound like 8-year old girls hopped up on Kool-Aid?
Fairlady Z - 09.23.07 4:50 pm
I _did_ expect a speed run, actually. But I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get one. Besides, how entertaining would a 30 second speed run actually be, anyway?

Hurricane_mario - 09.22.07 2:27 pm
Broom: He was NOT good. He almost got hit by a goomba twice, barely jumping away in time.
Hurricane_mario - 09.22.07 2:37 pm
A rookie player would die. He never got hit, and remembered where the warp pipe was. “Almost” does not constitute being bad at the game.
RageTreb - 09.22.07 3:16 pm
That was pretty much the greatest thing ever!
Savage - 09.22.07 3:23 pm
Well I’ve heard that Miyamoto hardly plays any of the games he makes because his wife doesn’t play much games and doesn’t really tolerate it at home.
GlompWorthyGamer - 09.22.07 3:54 pm
Wow, this was amazing
