Hello Player 1

With Super Mario Galaxy’s release less than two months away (Boxart Breakdown here), I thought I’d get in the mood by taking a look at the boxart for Mario platformers over the years. First up, the most iconic NA video game cover art of all time — Super Mario Bros.

As I already revealed in the Metroid post, there are few things in this world that I love more than NES first-gen ‘magnified pixels’ boxes. Though they all rock, this one is easily the most significant in that it broke new ground and set the design tone for the entire series.
I was all excited over the Mario Galaxy cover last time, and for good reason — it’s fantastic by today’s standards. But in the end, it’s a nice illustration on a ho-hum overall format — the dull DVD case, the imposed banner, etc. Conclusion: Nothing beats a first-gen NES box
