Hey folks. I know what you’re thinking - “Oh, great! Mildew is leaking through the ceiling tiles! I really, really wish that I lived in a house and not in Hooverville.” Don’t worry; I understand. You can barely afford to feed yourself, let alone find yourself some heartrending entertainment.
Well, rest assured - Mother 3 (Game of the Year confirmed!) is on sale at PlayAsia for a mind-blowing $14.90. And that’s an import. Did you hear me? You can’t even buy boxes of Japanese schoolgirl underwear for that cheap anymore. It’s great news, especially considering that the Mother 3 Fan Translation project is chugging right along towards a tentative pre-Smash Brothers Brawl finish line.
There’s not a lot of reason to skimp out on this deal now. It’ll last for 6 days as of this posting, so you’d better hurry!

I’ve never understood how we would use the fan translation. Is the idea that you purchase the game in the foreign language and then read the fan translation instead of the in-game text while you play (meaning you have to sit in front of the comp while playing)?

I bought Mother 3 back when it was like.. $40.
Its just gotten cheaper and cheaper after that.
But I don’t care, Mother 3 is worth any price.

I think it’s for people who can’t read Japanese but then won’t feel so bad about downloading the ROM so they can use the translation patch to finally play the game in English.
Or something like that…

Simon: Nah, you need a flash card of any type to play the translation. You literally patch the programming on the cart, and play the game in English in the game.
Mitch - 09.11.07 9:54 pm
Mitch: Can you elaborate on that at all?
Ragnor - 09.11.07 10:17 pm
Well, basically, if you buy this, you CAN’T play your cart in English. You need a flash cart to play it on a console, or just an emulator and the ROM and translation patch to play it on your PC.

Boughted. Legal translation patch ftw!
JohnB - 09.11.07 10:20 pm
DS-X ftw
mcheddadi - 09.11.07 10:33 pm
Yeah, Mitch, maybe you should make it clear that you CANNOT translate your Mother 3 cart. It is still a great game, even in Japanese, and fun to play, but there is no way you can make your copy English.
rbelmont000 - 09.11.07 10:52 pm
No, there’s plenty of ways to write to the actual cart, but this is mostly an effort to support the game itself. That’s the greatest show of support.
Plus, if you want to talk technically, the ROM you rip *is* playing *your* copy in English.

That drawing is amazing. I want to be able to draw like that.

This is like the 9th “Game of the Year! Hells Yeah!” post in the past 3 days. I don’t know how magical 4CR calendars work, but I’m pretty sure that means that 9 years will have passed before Super Smash Bros Brawl comes out.
Do you really want a 9 year delay on your conscience?! Can you AFFORD that kind of retribution!?!
Hint: answer to above question = no.
Peace

Yep, reason I bought it was so I could dump a ROM of it and eventually play said ROM with a translation patch applied. I started playing it a little, but I really want to be able to ‘get’ and understand everything with a game like this (some import games are easy to play without knowing the language, but a game like this, with so much text…).

Howard Roark: Mother 3 came out in 2006. Game of the year confirmed.
Mitch - 09.12.07 12:06 am
HAH! I totally just noticed the picture. Did you draw that, Mitch? Its frecking awesome.
rbelmont000 - 09.12.07 12:12 am
I bought Mother 3 from Play-Asia a few weeks ago on a different special offer for a few quid more. It was still incredibly cheap.
Donald - 09.12.07 2:39 am
So… Is it ACTUALLY good?
(flame proof suit goes on. hard.)
666 - 09.12.07 8:21 am
Man that’s way more on sale than it was when I got it. I can’t understand of single bit of the text but I still find it amusing to play. It would be waaaaaay better if I could though.
Steven - 09.12.07 8:34 am
@ Mitch: Yeah… Like the majority of people who play ROMs have the original carts and eqt to rip their own ROMs and play what is “theirs”.
Not sayin’ I ain’t guilty or nothin but, don’t talk like this ain’t the case~
jd - 09.12.07 10:35 am
I know, Mitch; I was just having a laugh.
Howard Roark - 09.12.07 10:38 am
Hm….. No. Nintendo, get off your a$$es and release an english version!
