It looks like Guitar Hero III on the Wii has a bit of a problem online.
The bbps contacted Bryan Lam, Senior PR Specialist with Red Octane to get some info on GHIII online capability on the Wii.
And here’s what they had to say:
“We’re working closely with Nintendo for an online solution, though at the moment we’re unable to confirm the status of the online multi-player.”
I hope Nintendo is working with them overtime to make this happen, cause it would suck being the only console left out of online play.

When was the last time Nintendo really cared about online play…

This is a shame because there were a few other options that the Wii was going to have that the other ones did not; It would be nice to have online multi-player but if the Wii version does not have downloadable content, GH3 went from buying on launch day with two guitars to will probably and eventually will be picking up the game with one guitar.
I am not one of those people who have to have every game online but a non WiFi Wii Guitar would hurt… a lot.

Nintendo started caring about on-line. Look at the DS; Strikers for the Wii has on-line play and Mario Kart for the Wii will also have online multi player.
But why do they have to be so stingy with 3rd parties.

That really would make the difference between me getting it for Wii and me getting it for PS2, as I already have a couple PS2 guitars.
I hope they will place online play as a higher priority than a timely release.

The exclusive guitar features look awesome, but if it the online isn’t there, I’m going to have to stick with the ps2 version, which i already have 2 guitars and 3 gh games for.

DOwnloadable content isn’t as cool as online Leaderboards and multi and stuff.

i dont think online play is that big of a deal for this game. the whole draw to the splitscreen multiplayer is the goofing around and being idiots with your friends while rocking out to Freebird. online wouldnt be the same. its not a big a difference in, say a shooter or sports game but its way different in GH.

It may not be super important, but I would still get the Wii version, meaning buying a new guitar and all that, if it did have some kind of online stuff. As it stands, unless the Wii version costs a significant amount less than the other versions (which it should, seeing as how the guitar is essentially a shell), without online I’ll definitely just be getting the PS2 version, fancy new guitar or no.

Isn’t it coming in a few weeks? I’m 90% sure downloads and online play are out. I will still buy it, but after all this time just expecting a Nintendo console to keep up with the other guys in the Internet stuff is pretty much crazy… everytime there is just some kind of new dissapointment. i bet they will get it right by the next console.

The DS has a slew of 3rd party games that are WiFi-Connection enabled, I don’t see why Guitar Hero III shouldn’t be.
To be honest, I never really played Guitar Hero at all until this past Tuesday. Online really wouldn’t affect me that much, since I like the game because it’s fun to compete with friends and family. I guess I could see how it’s importance would be for a hardcore player…but even so. It’s not gonna stop me from buying it plus another guitar on launch day.

I would never play GH online against someone else. I would like to have some downloadable content for it, but playing head-to-head should be reserved for people in the same room. I just don’t see the draw of squaring off against someone over the internet with a fake guitar.

I would have liked to see a “song of the week or month” that was auto downloaded to your wii via wiiconnect24. That would have been quite nice and would have not been possible on any other system. That would have been UNIQUE

This is how Nintendo works: They are market leaders right now so any complaints such as: No online, no original VC titles, etc, will NOT be addressed until sales of the Wii slows to a crawl.

hasn’t the Nintendo console always been the one left out of online play?

Welcome to Nintendo.

If it doesn’t have a freaking plumber or elfdude isn’t in it then Nintendo ain’t gonna sweat the details, especially when it come to online.

Nintendo had better stay out of Mario’s magic mushrooms and get a clue about online because folks have pretty much gotten over their trippy little interactive controller dealie.

i dont understand why they wont just enable online play and get it rolling. they are going to lose a huuuge market if they are down online play to the 360 and ps3. It is def in their best interest to make AT LEAST downloadable content. I’m riding the fence until the release bc of the whole online debauchle. Why waste 40 for a new guitar if i can just buy it on ps2 for the exact same game minus a 3rd guitar?
come on nintendo, its crunch time. make a play
