Reader Spence recently scored an interview with the executive producer of Myst for DS, and it’s currently featured at his 1up blog. A number of topics are discussed, including the window of opportunity for adventure games on DS, why the developer feels that DS is the perfect platform to experience Myst on, and more.
Spence also asks about the possibility of Riven finding its way onto the dual-screened portable, and it certainly sounds like a possibility. I sure hope so, because I need an excuse to get into that game again — I lost my copy years ago before finishing it, and it’s still on my to-do list. Hit the link below to check out the interview.

aaah myst, a long lost love. i wonder if they’ll do full 3D or the screen-by-screen approach? i always wanted to explore it in true 3D.

One series of games I never played when they came out and I kinda regret missing

I’m sorry, but that’s not an interview. Whoever Spence was talking to fails the Turing test.

My first thought upon seeing the picture, aloud, “Wow. Myst looks better on the DS than it ever did on the PC!”

you know what, i never finished that game either…where did i even put that game?

Sean, the “full 3D” version of Myst is called “RealMyst”, and can be found on ebay if you don’t mind paying a little (and assuming it still runs on current versions of Windows and OSX.) I kinda doubt the DS version will be RealMyst since they’re not calling it that.
I also vastly prefer RealMyst over the original.

LOL paying.

As mentioned previously, the guy in that interview is either a robot or just a total wanker. If all you’re going to do is regurgitate a vague, fluffy press release, why even bother to do the interview? But anyway, it is cool to see Myst coming to the DS. I wonder if they will have to cut out some of the stuff from the original to fit it on a DS cart. Not that they couldn’t cram it all on there, but it would be a huge rom. I also think a DS Riven is unlikely, unless they severely abbreviate it, as the original game was around 4 gigs. Figuring 1/4 of the original resolution for the DS screen still makes it 1 gig. It would be pretty neat though if they could pull it off.

I fail the what now? Apologies, but with such an old game it is very difficult to procure new information on it.

To Spence- if you’re the Spence from the interview- I wasn’t referring to your efforts, but rather to the guy you were interviewing, who just sounded an awful lot like he was merely reading canned responses off of a marketing sheet and not really giving thoughtful answers to your questions.
