If there’s one upcoming film that has me even more excited than Indy 4, it has to be Spike Jonze’ adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. Above is the first official picture from the film, which you can see in high-res here at AICN.
Looks wonderful, doesn’t it? As someone who can sing the book’s praises until I’m blue in the face, I can’t wait to see how Jonze — one of the few filmmakers who could hope to do Sendak justice — has expanded the short children’s book into a full-length movie. Oh, and if you haven’t read the book, do so immediately

They are making a movie of this!? AWESOME. I’m going to have to read up on this.

Hu-ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I remember when I first heard about this movie, and I was psyched. Then it kinda dropped off the radar, and I forgot about it until about a month ago when it popped back into my head suddenly.
And now, Mr. N Rumas, you have made my day.
Thank you.
I assure you, I will be one of many to go see this opening day/night. I loved this book.

I was prepared to be entirely aggravated by the news of yet another intellectual property needlessly being ported between media, but Spike Jonze? Really? Awesome.

Wow - from what little we can see of the costumes, they look awesome!

I live and die by that book and haev read an inumerable amount of times since I first caught sight of it in my early childhood. I’m glad to see that someone is making a film of and from what I can see, they aren’t using CGI which keeps in with the style of the book. The “wild things” were never very realistic and seemed almost like humans in costume in the book and I’m glad that they will be depicted as such in the film.
I cant wait to see more about this film!

I really can’t imagine this being very good as a full length movie, maybe 30min but not anything over an hour. However, that shot looks awesome.

Its not who has read the book, but who hasn’t read the book. Damn I’m excited. Nearly as excited as I am about Anamalia becoming a cartoon series!

Wow. This REALLY caught me of guard…. I’m at a lost for words…. Except for one: YES!!!!
lamartherevenger - 06.26.07 2:39 am
Whoa, I’d forgotten about this!
That book is awesome. I loved it when I was a kid.

@Bainick
Animalia? A cartoon? Fascinating…

don’t get me wrong I really like the book when I was a kid, but it’s like less than 20 pages long. Why not just make a movie about “green eggs and ham” or the “cat in the hat”….Oh yeah…. that movie did well…..
