Reuters is reporting from Tokyo that Nintendo’s market value, already having edged out Matsushita, is closing in on Sony mighty fast. Here are the numbers:
Sony = 6.64 trillion yen
Nintendo = 6.3 trillion yen
Matsushita = 6.23 trillion yen
Of course, the really remarkable thing here is the difference in what these three companies produce — Sony and Matsushita make everything but hair spray, while Nintendo makes Wii, DS, and gaming software. That equals a whole lotta wow.
With Nintendo as hot as it is right now, I’m anxious to see its rank on Interbrand’s Top 100 Global Brands list come August. I used to work for Interbrand, and while I’ve never had much regard for the list itself, I hope those who compile it will finally realize that Nintendo is worth a lot more than it was four years ago. We’ll see.

Crazy, I’ve never even heard of Matsushita. That’s great for the Big N though.

“Nintendo makes Wii, DS, and gaming software.”
Not true! They still make Hanafuda cards!

Well, you have to remember that this is only market worth. Sony and Panasonic’s revenues are still around 9 times thatof Nintendo’s.
Still, that’s impressive Nintendo!
