In their latest podcast, the IGN Nintendo crew does some extreme pimping of Capcom’s upcoming Zak & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure for Wii. While they don’t (can’t is probably more like it, though it’s obvious they possess an in-progress copy) divulge any new details about the game, they say that it deserves to be placed in the top tier of upcoming Wii titles, alongside Smash Bros, Mario, and Metroid.
In addition, for fear of an Eternal Darkness repeat (the ‘great game gets criminally overlooked’ scenario), they’ve officially started the Buy Zak & Wiki Campaign 2007. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be first in line for this one. Sweet cel-shaded graphics, cool designs, and brilliantly difficult puzzles, all in the spiritual descendant of old-school point-and-click adventures…sounds like a true classic in the making

Hum…I think I’ll wait for it to become “player’s choice”

I wasn’t interested in this game at all but after hearing the IGN editors gush over it and watching a few videos of the game in action, I think I am going to buy it right away now.
Enoch - 06.18.07 8:56 pm
Yeah, I wasn’t quite sure but with the positive things I’ve been hearing…I’m gonna check this game out more, give it more of a look than I was.
9th Sage - 06.18.07 9:10 pm
I was interested. And then I lost interest (mainly because of the name change, of all things. shallow, I know. And this is coming from a Viewtiful Joe fan)
But seeing IGN go as far as campaigning people to purchase this game…maybe I’ll reconsider.
Blue Falcon - 06.18.07 9:10 pm
i just cant see myself spending 60 dollars on that game… Maybe I’ll rent it and play inbetween sessions of Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, and Godzilla Unleashed.
gojiguy - 06.18.07 9:15 pm
It looks very creative and fun. That’s all I need to enjoy a game. Definitely getting it.
Denty One - 06.18.07 10:22 pm
@Gojiguy: You live in Canada? Well, the price might not be as high as the standard MSRP. IGN has the price listed as 40USD. Either way, if it’s good it’ll be worth getting for a couple of reasons:
1) It helps to show that it’s a viable platform for third parties. Shouldn’t that be our primary goal right now?
2) It encourages experimentation, and the design of new and interesting IPs rather than the same franchises we are already used to. As IGN is doing with this, they also campaigned for Eternal Darkness, which sadly seemed to have been a failed effort. The failure has essentially killed the chances for a sequel (at least on a Nintendo system) and helped to destroy the relationship between Silicon Knights and Nintendo.
Dead_Prophet - 06.18.07 11:30 pm
I’m a little suspicious of a site as commercial as IGN “promoting” this game in this way. Sounds more to me like a really great way to advertise, by just outright telling people to buy the game.
Of course, maybe it’s great. I’ll wait for reviews of course, from more than just IGN for sure.
Goob - 06.19.07 1:13 am
This game is reportedly budget-priced at $39. If it is, I’m buying it on Day One.
Kamalot - 06.19.07 1:42 am
IGN should also start a Change the Name Back to Treasure Island Z Campaign 2007. For those complaining about the cost… count yourselves lucky that, even if the game’s budget-priced in the US, it’ll be the full £40 ($80) in the UK.
It sucks to be a European gamer
JVC - 06.19.07 5:33 am
At that price I have to say yes.
P.S. Listening to The Cure eh? Been reading Natalie Dee, or just coincidence?
dr.hawty - 06.19.07 5:40 am
when is this out?
David James - 06.19.07 7:20 am
Yeah and I’m sure it’ll be about 5800Y or something higher than the $39.99MSRP here in Japan~
It sucked getting RE4:Wii for about $40 as well… I forgot how cheap things can be in the states.

Yeah if I was a furry!
Fank - 06.19.07 9:06 am
The art style reminds me of Monkey Island! Looks fun, hope it IS fun.
Namssorg - 06.19.07 9:30 am
dr.hawty: 4cr’s very own drew got me back into the cure with ‘plainsong’. always loved the band, but believe it or not id either never heard or forgot that song. wow.
N Rumas - 06.19.07 11:04 am
Oh… good… text windows and gibberish… and musical notes, so we know the character is supposed to have musical speech patterns… Good thing I won’t have the option to use my ears, or I might, accidentally!
amanaplan - 06.19.07 11:27 am
When I initially read previews about this here on 4CR, I wasn’t terribly interested. The first thought that went through my mind is “Oh god, not ANOTHER f**king Mini-Game game.”
But then I read about it more, on IGN and in the latest Nintendo Power.
And really, it harkens more back to some of my favorite games of my childhood, namely Full Throttle, Sam and Max, and the Indy games using the S.C.U.D engine. Except NOW it uses the Wii-Mote for the puzzles and it has pirates. PIRATES!
So, regardless of price, I’m pretty much sold.
OOF - 06.19.07 1:15 pm
I’m down for the cause, this title looks great.
