While there wasn’t any huge news this week, it sure was awesome to get a look at the Yoshi’s Island stage, pictured above. Beyond being stunningly beautiful, it features seasonal changes, though it’s still not known what kind of schedule (random, quick, real-world, etc.) they’ll occur on. Here’s a rundown of the week’s news:
Week 4 Updates:
6/11 — Fox
6/12 — Yoshi’s Island
6/13 — Metroid: Boss Battle Music
6/14 — Crates & Barrels
6/15 — Samus
Looking at the Yoshi’s Island stage pics, I couldn’t help but long for a true 3D iteration of the classic series on Wii. Imagine how cool it’d be: a gorgeous hand-drawn graphical style lifted straight from the above pic, 3D Mario platformer controls, and pixel-perfect Wiimote egg aiming. I get all excited just thinking about it

I want some zero suit samus action *drools*

Yoshi needs the Super Paper Mario treatment. Now that would be amazing! A true SNES sequel (besides the handhelds)

Rolling Crates! was the awesome news for me this week.

That remix of Ridley’s theme was absolutely fucking *awesome*.

Yeah, the Ridley theme was supremely nifty. Hopefully they do a Poke`mon gym battle remix in the same style.

Haha, in the winter shot of the Yoshi’s Island stage, you can see the moon with its little stomp pegs used during the boss battle. That’s awesome.

Another cool week of Super Smash Bros. Brawl updates (ha, I said the same thing last week, I think). I’m happy with the Fox McCloud and Samus Aran screenshots that Nintendo put up. Yoshi’s Island looks cool too and I’m looking forward to the different seasons of play.
As for the Metroid music, just like Yoshi’s Story before it, I’m really digging it. And last but not least, the crates and barrels. I think it’s cool that they’ll be more individualized for each level-type, and that some crates now have wheels.
It’s all of these little things that are coming together piece by piece, that’s really getting me more and more pumped for the game.

Would be cool too if they utilize the weather channel to summon real-time weather changes during battle too (;

The Ridley remix IS pretty awesome. And…
“This song appears in a variety of games in the Metroid series.
It’s the theme song for Samus’s arch-nemesis, Ridley.”
Could that be a hint of another character…?
Also: I have a gut feeling Paper Mario will be a playable character. I hope so!

I hope there’s some sort of big flurry of weather effects when the seasons change. Sorta like in the boss fight on DOA Ultimate 2, only cuter.

I feel like the cartoony backgrounds of the Yoshi’s Island stage clashes with the more realistic/detailed look of the actual characters. It would be cool if the characters’ graphics changed to match the stage you were playing like the crates and barrels do (so a more cartoony, Paper Mario-ish look on stages like this one, and the 3d realistic look on other levels).

Hey rumas you listen to sigur ros? awesome!
luet - 06.16.07 2:41 pm
@Brian: That’s a good idea. However, Yoshi’s cutesy stages have always sorta clashed with the rest of the game.
In general, this week didn’t have anything huge, but I did enjoy the news on Samus, Yoshi’s Island and the crates. Fox of course is still awesome. Ridely’s remix was cool, but I was never really into the Metroid series, so that wasn’t as exciting for me.
C’mon Nintendo! Confirm DK already for me will ya?
