I never thought I’d post about Second Life here at 4cr, but as a certified Brian Eno fanatic, I couldn’t resist. The artist’s one-of-a-kind audiovisual exhibit, 77 Million Paintings, is set to be featured in the virtual world later this month in conjunction with a San Francisco opening.
Here’s a brief introduction to the exhibit from the website of The Long Now Foundation:
“Conceived by Brian Eno as ‘visual music’, his latest artwork, 77 Million Paintings is a constantly evolving sound and imagescape which continues his exploration into light as an artist’s medium and the aesthetic possibilities of ‘generative software’.”
On a personal note, this marks the first time I’ve ever been interested in Second Life. I don’t think it’s enough for me to take the plunge just yet, but I’m getting closer.
Click here to head to the official site for 77 Million Paintings, where you can learn/see/hear more, and even purchase the DVD, which happens to be perfect for huge HD panel displays and awesome sound systems, both of which I’m lacking at the moment

That’s a pretty sweet painting on the title post there, but I can’t help but think that is what my scalp looks like with these darn chickenpox…

Im sure it’s more involved and creative, but what was described to me sounds like a screensaver.

Trust me, nothing is really worth signing up for Second Life lol.

The art seems nice, but not quite my thing. But I’m not as involved in abstract.
That point aside, Second Life is the best scam I had ever heard of. Pay REAL money for portraits and paintings you can put up in your DIGITAL home. That’s nothing short of genius right there.
Like Carbon Offsets. Pure scaming genius at it’s best.

You can also pay fake money for fake paintings or vehicles or clothing or make your own. It costs nothing to sign up for or to play Second Life and while, indeed, you can pay people real money for digital things it is not a requirement and not any more or less of a scam than MMORPGs. Second Life is what you make of it and what you do with it, just like nearly anything online.
That said, I stopped playing about a year ago and yes, the furries are scary.
