Update: As this website suggests, the quote from Games.fr may be erroneous. However, the source also doesn’t have a lot to back up its claims besides a “I heard it from the source”. As usual, take this with a grain of salt.

You might recall that, when Pokemon Battle Revolution was discovered to have had its own set of friend codes (in lieu of a rumored ‘universal friend code’), the Jedi Council on Dantooine reported an unprecedented disturbance in the Force. Almost, as if thousands of voices cried out in frustration and were suddenly silenced. Truly, it was the end for so many Nintendo fans everywhere. Civil wars sparked up incessantly, and the Nintendo world was in an almost perpetual state of strife.

Then, through an interview with the Mario Strikers: Charged developers, we found out that we maybe jumped the gun just a little bit. According to Justin Doweswell, Striker’s producer, every Mii is assigned a friend code that simply doesn’t change from game to game.

G – And what about the Mii-specific codes?

Each Mii created generates a Mii code which never changes. This code will be used for all online games in the future.

Now, this doesn’t mean that Nintendo will retain a list of your friends from game to game – instead, specific Miis are assigned unique, permanent friend codes that will be used universally. It isn’t Xbox Live, but hey, just months ago, people were ready to go wading with their Wiis. It’s a lot better than we were expecting, right?
