I’m all for the expression of love in public. Love is a beautiful thing, but when it begins to turn into infatuation, problems arise. Feelings are hurt, tires are slashed, dead horse heads are found on pillows. Just ask Mitch about his experiences, he’ll tell you.
So it scares me a little to see that the loving relationship that budded not to long ago between Nintendo and Japan has become a bit, intense. Sure, it starts with the DS Lite breaking 10 million sales in Japan. That accounts for almost half of DS Lite sales. That seems like a nice, healthy expression of love from Japan.
But then you factor in this week’s Japanese Software numbers… and you realize that the first title that is not on Nintendo hardware on the list is at number 22. And that 26 of the top 30 are made up of Wii and DS titles. The picture becomes a lot more, sinister. Get out while you can Nintendo… get out while you can.

That’s incredible. Just a couple of years ago, a lot of people thought Nintendo was finished, and now, not only are they doing well, they’re also dominating. In Japan, at least. Pretty insane stuff.

Yes, Godfather reference.

The nice thing about the DS sales is that there’s a good mix of first party and third party software. Hopefully that will happen for the Wii more as time goes on.

What’s with all this constant cross-flaming of other 4CR contributors? Let’s keep it professional here.

Sweet jeevus didn’t the DS Lite just come out last year? Nintendo Nirvana! I say all 4cr readers pack up and move to Japan! Man, imagine being in a big city with DS love everywhere, getting into random games with folks…wonder how often that happens.

I don’t understand your analogy. Love involves a deeper knowledge of the other party and is longer lasting while infatuation is more superficial and short-lived. You say Japan has moved from love to infatuation but that doesn’t make sense. Many relationships start at infatuation and if anything move to love or collapse. While I understand that you were being sarcastic, I think it would be more appropriate to label it moving from infatuation to obsession. Just my two cents.

I was just remarking on a recent trend, is all. Geez… *Breathes heavily à la Napoleon Dynamite*

where ever Square-Enix goes, you can be sure Japan will certainly follow. 10 million DS sales has little to do with Mario (or Gamecube would have been a hit), maybe Square-Enix should make a console….. Hmmm…
I’m Happy though, I have Metroid Prime Hunters.
What? - 05.10.07 7:44 pm
Or since Iwata is buying companies, maybe they should strike a deal with Square-Enix.
Sqaure-Enix-Nintendo….
Lol.
What? - 05.10.07 7:47 pm
What, the success of the Nintendo DS probably has more to do with virtual dogs and brain games than anything Square-Enix related. DQ and stuff hasn’t even come out on DS yet has it? I know S-E have released some DS games already, but their really massive titles are still future releases I’m pretty sure.

I wonder how well the DS would have done in Japan without the knowledge of Square-Enix support… Or if Sqaure-Enix brought all that juicy software to the PSP instead?
What? - 05.11.07 11:19 am
Square-Enix?
Oh wait, they’re that company that used to make good games.
MR. NULL - 05.11.07 11:40 am
Nintendo has done it! Good for them!
