As a huge fan of poseable Gundam figures (click here to see the above-pictured Sazabi in all his red glory), I’m rather ashamed to say that I’ve never, ever played a Gundam game. Hopefully, though, I’ll get to remedy that with the franchise’s first Wii outing, Gundam 0079.
The official site for the first-person title is already up, with three gameplay videos on display for all to see. The action looks extremely intense, and the controls appear to really take advantage of Wii’s unique interface.
Chances are Bandai’s really putting a lot of effort into the title, what with both Wii and Gundam being such hot properties nowadays, and that bodes well for the final product. Check out the videos below, all cleanly embedded on one page.

My name’s Gundam… James Gundam.

Honestly, in most cases, you’re better off. They usually have some significant problems. I think they all have promise at some stage (the basic idea is awesome in and of itself), but something usually seems to go wrong along the way. It’s just kind of hard to remain optimistic after so many tries lol.
Maybe they’ll approach this one differently due to the Wii’s setup and it will be fun. I hope so. It certainly seems faster than some of them turn out to be.

i don’t know. i was kinda hoping for something more along the lines of Mobile Suit Gundam for the Dreamcast, which was more of a simulator than what we’re being shown here.

Gundam games on the whole have been the usual licensed dreck you’d expect from bandai, with the one exception of the japan-only “One Year War” for PS2, which was developed in conjunction with the Project Aces (Ace Combat) team at Namco. It seamlessly blends fast-paced mecha combat with cutscenes taken straight from the original show, and is by far one of the best import titles on that console.

That’s EXACTLY what we are getting here. This game is practically a sequel to the First-person action games on the Saturn and Dreamcast. This has me excited, because while the games (especially the Dreamcast version) were mediocre, they were still a lot of fun to play. If this one improves on the formula, then it should be a blast.

I hope to God this comes to the US. Or that we get a working freeloader/action replay that will let us play Jap games. Actually I would prefer a way to play the original Jap games -_-

that was the most boring map I’ve ever seen in a first person shooter. I mean, it’s brown, which is bad enough, but not even the realistic kind of brown. More like Parrot poop brown. Looks like a dud if that’s what they have to show.

Actually the mobile suit is the Sazabi piloted by Char Aznable. The toy line above is from Bandai’s CollectionDX.

The Dreamcast games were quite fun, and it’s nice to see that some of the same people who worked on those will be doing this game.
Though I still I want a sequel to Gundam Online.

Somehow that Sazabi leaves me a bit disappointed… the Master Grade kit looks more satisfying but it lacks certain details (http://hashimotohendrix.com/sazabi_kakudai/sazabi_kakudai.h tm)
If only they’d make a Perfect Grade…
Of course there’s always this (15,000 yen) monster http://www33.ocn.ne.jp/~a_engineering/seihin/sazabi.html
(That’s a terrific shot btw Rumas. Who’s this [esc] dude? could give Remy and Brisko some serious competition…)
