It does look rather like the main character in the nights game. Something to do with the headgear and funny boots.

Mewtwo isn’t part of the Mushroom Kingdom though so I doubt it’s any Pokemon. It’s probably not Ness, Tom Nook, or Krystal for the same reason.

It’s definitely Birdo. Those white spots that look like eyes, aren’t eyes. They’re nostrils. And as someone already mentioned; that does look like the outline of a bow behind them.

Wait a sec… I just realized Birdo doesn’t have nostrils… just a big hole right?

It’s just Daisy. If you count the montage of super shots, there’s only 11. They use all the characters that were featured in the trailer. The blue one is Daisy. The secret captain is probably just the Robot.

So many things wrong with this post, and some of the comments that follow. C’mon guys.

First off — “Bowser Jr., who was recently revealed as being playable in the new smash bros.” — This never happened. It’s entirely false.

Secondly, consensus is that the “shadowy figure” is simply a robot character, akin to the first game. It does not represent any returning characters from the Super Mario series, so there is not much to figure out there.

It didn’t happen. The Bowser Jr SSBB thing was a totaly fake rumour made up by some site. It was proven fake when it first came out, and then proven fake again when it reappeared for some reason several months ago. There’s no way in hell Bowser Jr would appear in SSBB, a Mario sports game however is totally different and he’s quite likely to appear in every one now, especially since they usually have teams of two in all the Mario sports titles.

I thought the Bowser Jr. SSBB thing was either what “Robert” thought, or was a mistake and he meant Mario Strikers Charged(or Mario Smash Football Charged or something?)

It does look a lot like Mewtwo, but I sorta thought of Krystal or whatever her name is from Starfox Adventures. Would be weird to bring that character back for anything though.

Read the earlier comments. Bowser Jr. has NOT been confirmed for SSBB. That was a rumor that too many people believed without actually checking their facts that spun out of control. The guy who started that rumor like 6 months ago is STILL laughing up a storm about gullibility.

To me, it looks kinda like a shadowy version of Luigi in some Tron-esque glowy armour. As other people are guessing things that are already on the list, I’ll do the same. It’s Luigi, dressed up as Tron for halloween, and playing football. Now I’m really excited.
