Jeux-France got invited to “Next Level Games” showing of Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii. In the video footage presented on Jeux-France, we learn that Mario Strikers will be featuring the following:
- 12 Captains, with each their own attributes.
- Bowser is a new playable Captain this year.
- For the first time you can mix and match sidekicks in your team.
- Boo, Dry bone, Shyguy and Monty Mole are new sidekicks.
- 9 new Stadiums, each with their own events. Such as no sidewalls so you can push the other team off the field.
- Each Captains have their own special ability.
- Sidekicks each have different skill shots.Online play
- You’ll be able to play ranked and unranked games online.
- Playing 2 players locally on one Wii against 2 players on another Wii online.
- Season, each season is around 3 months, during those three months it will keep track of all your win/lose and the points you’ve won.
- Striker of the day mode. If you’re get the most ranking point in a certain day, your Mii will be featured on everyones Wii.Friend Code
- You import your Mii in Strikers, and get a friend code per Mii. This way, you and your family can have different friends to play with online.
I guess they didn’t have a choice regarding friend codes because the game has multiple profiles and your Wii only has one.
The only thing I can say is this game looks awesome. With the online features promised in this interview, how can we be disappointed? What’s that? 4CR Mario Strikers Tournament? Mario Strikers is schedule for release in Europe on May 25th and in the US sometime in Q3 ‘07.

Mario Strikers for GameCube represents the first Mario-Sports game that I did not like. (Mario Baseball for GC was the second) So I had VERY little interest in this new Wii version. But now, I’m looking forward to it. If all those online features really make it into the game, if it’s quick and easy to set up a match, and if the game is ANY kind of fun to play, then this new version could kick some ass and make me give the game another shot.

This game looks amazing. Plus, did you hear in the video that some arena have 8,000-10,000 polygonal crowd members? Awesome.

Only problem is that online play is region specific to cut down on lag so no online play with my friends from across the pond

‘8,000-10,000 polygonal crowd members’ oh my, what a waste of polygons o_0.
I like the idea of 2 Vs 2 online, but christ this friend code stuff is gay. Nintendo should change the system so that if you’re under a certain age, say,18 you have to use the codes. Let us adults who arent going to be picked up by pedobear roam free dammit

Well, if nothing else, the online component sounds to do most of what people would have hoped/expected, so that’s nice. The two player on one system thing would have been pretty lame to leave out.

I hope that’s total polys and not per character. If only they had spent more time with better texturing and effects…
Still, I’m definitely excited about this. I suppose Mii-specific, as opposed to game-specific friend codes, makes sense so as to have different friends per player. I just hope the region specific thing isn’t true, or at least lets me play against all north and south american players.
Let’s see this game out soon!

Jeeeeze… I hope we don’t start having Mii-specific friend codes PER GAME. That is madness.

Regarding friend codes: according to the video, it’s not as bad as it seems. While you do need friend codes to pick a friend and play with him or her, you do not need to exchange friend codes to play ranked matches. As a matter of fact, you CAN’T play ranked matches against people with whom you have exchanged friend codes to prevent cheating.
In short, to do a ranked match, the game will match you with somebody (presumably at a similar skill level) without the two of you needing to exchange friend codes.

Maybe I misunderstood, but is this saying that to play online, you have to have 4 players? Two playing on each Wii? Because if that’s the case, I can’t play it, because I have no friends. Sadface.
Xiriel - 04.25.07 3:15 pm
Xiriel, nah… it supports up to 4 players online, 2 vs 2 on 2 consoles. You can still play 1 vs 1 online, fear not!

the online features are pretty sweet i mean 2 vs. 2 is going to rock and the striker of the day plus the three month season which will kick*** the best part for me on fun is the disconnecting problem which will be solved on mario kart people always disconnected on me if we have friend codes for miis then many people will be cursing nintendo i mean it’s ridicolous
