Feast your eyes on the original Iron Man armor for the Jon Favreau movie! Very reminiscent of the original gray (Mark 1) armor from the comics, this is the suit that Tony builds in Afghanistan after being captured and injured while selling military weapons. The suit looks fantastic and channels the original comic version and Adi Granov’s slightly updated version.
So far this movie is hitting all the right notes for me - excellent cast, good energetic director, fantastic artists attached to preproduction, real effects over CG when possible, and now a wonderfully realized shot of the first armor. I can’t wait! Let’s hope the traditional red and gold armor turns out this well.

It’s funny, I never knew this iron man, to me it was always the gold and red armor.

Adi Granov is a great guy. He lives very close to me and I see him all the time in my local comic shop, where one of my siblings work.
I love his Iron Man work so much. He drew me a great picture of Tony Stark once which I have hung on my wall with pride.
And you are right, this film is looking spot on at the moment

Looks good. Too bad Tony Stark is a total jerk.

Hmm…looks like a 5th grader made it out of cardboard. That’s just me though, an Ironman newb.
Maybe that’s just a shot from the inevitable flashback sequence.

Back in the day, you were happy to have armor like this. Sure it would take you a full day to get into it, but we liked it. Yes we loved it!
I hope this movie will be great. I don’t want a let down.

Weapons in afghanistan?
I thought he was hurt in a car crash or something…

Saturn: His parents were killed in a car crash, if I recall correctly.
Either way, regardless of the fact that I loathe the existence of Iron Man currently, I haven’t seen any fault with what Jon has done to this movie. Casting is spot on, the suit looks great…it seems like he’s actually taking the time to look into the source material he’s using.

afghanistan?
O.o
actually it was Vietnam

With times a changing in the Marvel World and it only being roughly 13 years since the Fantastic Four showed up (Marvel Time), they had to changed a few orgins around.
So while Iron Man used to get his start in Vietnam fighting the communists, he now gets his start in Afghanistan fighting communists and rouge warcheifs.
After all, it wouldn’t make much sense for Tony to be over the age of 50 and still be a drunk jet-set womanizing drunk (he really likes the drinks).
Same basic story, just a diffrent place and slightly diffrent reasons.

ok… that looks good… hopefully some good story treatment is on the way… that is dont deviate too much from the comics… after all it’s the comics that made all this possible…
