Today’s image comes to us from our friend Aaron, a 4cr reader spending a semester in Japan. Apparently he came upon some pretty cool No More Heroes apparel and, being a fan of both Suda 51 and cool shirts, he just had to buy it and send a photo to us to gloat over his cool find. Being that we’re all fans of artistically beautiful games around here, anything related to No More Heroes is of interest to us. Still, looking at this image, I was at a bit of a loss as to how its imagery related to the game. And then an easily forgotten detail about the game came to mind…

Apparently, T-shirts are a big part of main character Travis Touchdown’s design. IGN reported this last fall:
Travis’s clothing has special signifigance in the game. Travis is a big anime geek, so his shirts tend to sport anime-style witch characters. You’ll also find wrestler and fighter designs. Grasshopper drafted Okama, the character designer for the opening of the recent Japanese television hit Densha Otoko, to create over 100 t-shirt designs.
That’s pretty cool if you ask me. Has anyone else pretty much completely overlooked this small detail about the game, or am I the only one? At the moment, I don’t recall reading about it anywhere else. Maybe that’s because it’s not that big of a deal to most people. But it is neat to see a developer put so much thought into something so seamingly small. So unless someone else can clue me in, this T-shirt Aaron found must be part of an ad campaign for the game that plays off the main character’s personality.
That being said, thanks for the image Aaron. As for the rest of you readers, why can’t you be more like Aaron? It would be nice to see you put forth a little effort once in awhile and send us some cool images to post. No seriously, if you come across a cool photo, drawing, cartoon, or animation send it to us. If it be post worthy, posted shall it be. Here’s the full shirt.

i would wear it

I think it’s much more likely that this shirt is related to The Stranglers punk/new wave song “No More Heroes” from the 1970s.

i think its just a shirt of the stranglers, they had a song and album called no more heroes. Foolish websites! Stupid kotaku!

Uninspiring shirt for something based on a promising videogame and something that came out of Japan.

Is that a capcom logo on the tag?
I thought it was being published by Marvelous or something?
I think I agree with LH, I think it’s a coincedence that it has the name of an upcoming game, kinda doubting that it’s official merch or anything.

edit: nevermind! I didn’t realise there was more text.

The tag doesn’t say Capcom. I strongly, strongly doubt this has any actual connection to the game, especially since the store I bought it from primarily stocks random, self-screen printed shirts. But still, it’s random, and says No More Heroes; I couldn’t pass it up.
Aaron - 04.10.07 6:05 pm
Its hardly random if you know who The Stranglers are.
