If you were anywhere on the Internet on April Fools Day, you were probably linked to ThinkGeek’s annual prankathon somewhere down the line – and if you were, you were probably one of the hundred thousands that salivated over the world’s geekiest tie. They had a lot of other great fake products as usual, but truly, only the 8-bit tie shone as a product that should have existed years ago.
And I’m apparently not the only guy that thinks so. As ThinkGeek writes, they’ve more or less recognized the power they’d unleashed:
Hey! You! Quit emailing us to make this for REAL already
We promise, we’ll make it. In fact we are already working on it. You’ve just forced our hand! Click the ‘email me when available’ link above to get notified! Thanks! I guess the joke is on us this year :p
Not only that, but even commenters in this Digg thread are working hard on rolling these things off the production line and onto the necks of the nerdy public at large.
How do you feel, rebels? Would you actually wear one of these?

I would wear it. I would so wear it.

I would! I’d buy it in a freakin heartbeat.

Funny thing Mitch, I thought the exact same thing about that tie when I read the newsletter!
I remember thinking that it was entirely feasible and cool looking.
Arcanis - 04.01.07 10:30 pm
For those of us with real jobs, this would be great!
richard - 04.01.07 10:39 pm
I would so buy one of those (but given ThinkGeek’s absolutely criminal shipping rates to Canada, I’d have to have a friend in the US send it to me.)
The only thing is… I can’t see the novelty lasting more than 6 months. By then, all the idiots in the clubs will have one.

ThinkGeek’s AprilFools products always fool me, if only for a moment (there’s usually 1 ridiculously fake one to tip me off, like last years wireless powerstrips) and this year was no different. I almost clicked to add this tie to my cart until I saw the availability date which tipped me off and then it hit me, today is April 1. Damnit. BUT - if they are really making this I will buy one in every color they provide! SO COOL
handofg0d - 04.01.07 10:42 pm

luet - 04.01.07 11:17 pm

I actually made the comment in some IRC channels late Saturday night that Thinkgeek was run by asses for continually including items that are both feasible and awesome in their April fools jokes.
Earlier today, upon learning that Thinkgeek decided to actually make these ties, I retracted my previous statement.

This is the only tie I will ever wear. I’m buying it.
s256 - 04.02.07 3:25 am
Yes. I would.
Scypher - 04.02.07 4:43 am
I like ugly ties, but that’s pushing it for me. I’ll stick with paisley in some nasty color combinations.
pete - 04.02.07 8:54 am
Haven’t worn a tie in 7 years (starting your own business sucks sometimes, but that’s a pretty good perk,) but if I run into a situation where I need to again, I’m totally buying one of these.
raindog - 04.02.07 10:00 am
I would SOOOO wear this. I must have one
DarkTide - 04.02.07 11:42 am
Yeah, I’d wear it. People would probably LIKE the thing even.
Baramos - 04.02.07 12:10 pm
DEAR GOD YES.
Rynen10K - 04.02.07 4:33 pm
Of course I’d wear it.
aitmanga - 04.02.07 6:01 pm
Duh. I need a new tie.
Crimson Warrior - 04.02.07 9:32 pm
I’d buy three.
You never know when you’ll spill.
