Full sales figures and official press release after the break.

Nintendo News: Wii Wins Again
According to independent sales data released by the NPD Group, the Wii(TM)
from Nintendo was America’s best-selling video game console in the U.S. again
in February, with consumers snapping up virtually every system available in
America totaling more than 335,000 units.Only one game system sold more in February, the portable Nintendo DS(TM),
with sell-through of 485,000 units.Together, Nintendo systems represented 54 percent of all hardware sales in
February, more than those of all other manufacturers combined.“We’re gratified that the explosive appeal of Wii, in terms of both new
players and new ways to play, has created unprecedented demand, substantially
beyond supply,” says Reggie Fils-Aime, president, Nintendo of America. “But
we also understand that there are hundreds of thousands of consumers still
waiting to get their hands on the system so we continue to both ship more
units to retail every week and work non-stop to build capacity.”Reports from households across the country indicate that Wii has become
the centerpiece for weekend parties, a new method for improving athletic
technique and losing weight, and a landmark product for generating
cross-generational fun.The strength of Wii and Nintendo DS was also apparent in monthly software
sales where three of the top four best-selling games for the month (Wii
Play(TM) and The Legend of Zelda(R): Twilight Princess for Wii, and Diddy
Kong(R) Racing DS for Nintendo DS) play exclusively on Nintendo systems. In
addition, so far this year 10 of the top 20 best-selling games are exclusive
for Nintendo hardware.

Wow, PS3 sells less then GBA. Of course, that is probably because of the short supply. Honestly, what I am most surprised by is 24,000 Cubes sold! While it is the second lowest, it is still crazy.

Short supply of PS3s? I see them on shelves everywhere where I live. I’ve yet to see a single Wii in a store and and don’t see DS’s all that often. I think they’re just getting a good old fashioned whoopin right now.

@ BELMONTooo: Um dude, the PS3 is easy as hell to find.

I tried all 12 zip codes that my family lives in and everyone has a grip of’m.
Try BB, CC, EB, GS, any dot com or most local retailers should have them. In the last month, I’ve seen them at every game-selling store I’ve visited.
Not hard to find because not many people want a system that’s expensive and has no “great” games yet…

And an obligatory “yay!” for Nintendo~

If I click the Ouendan 2 and Brain Academy scans hot news, I just get a picture of a girl. She’s not even naked. What a bummer.

I just have to say that Nintendo put sony to the floor and dragged it. Sony won’t be able to spin thier way out of this month with he PS3, PS2 ,maybe.
It makes me really happy to see that its not just gamers, but regular people that are willing to wait and but a wii. It just make me proud that people are looking again to Nintendo.

TO put it bluntly, Sony’s getting pwned. The DS alone sold more than the total amount of PS2’s and PS3’s combined! Just goes to show, Nintendo’s stuff is just more fun and worth the money.
W00T for Nintendo!

I also find it interesting that the 360 outsold the PS3 so heavily during that month. I don’t know that it’s surprising, but it is interesting. While I don’t know what the general supply is of the system, I do have to echo the idea that, at least in Chicago, you can get them pretty much anywhere rather easily. It’s just weird considering analysts were saying we’d have a hard time finding the thing until June.

I have to say, I checked my local Toys R’ US, and I saw PS3’s in stock. Unfortunately, no Wii’s. The employee there told me that people stil line-up.
There’s got to be somewhere that I can find a Wii!

Perhaps I’m in an odd part of the country, but I’m not seeing this surplus of PS3s that everyone is supposedly talking about.

Day by day Nintendo is making things right. I enjoy the Wii and all the channels. I enjoy the games (currently playing Wii Sports and Elebits after Red Steel and Rayman have been finished… and Red Steel is actually fun, so go give it a try). And yesterday I bought 5000 Wii points and got Donkey Kong Country (owned it way back when but lent it to someone who never gave it back), Bonk, New Adventure Island and Military Madness. NAI and Bonk are great games for small 10-15 minutes bursts and MM is a good strategy game that can show Nintendo we ARE interested in having Famicom Wars and Fire Emblem localized.

No way! PS3 sold worst than GBA!
Nice.

It’s worse.
And what about the months it didn’t?
hyda_albion - 03.16.07 8:24 pm
Not only did Wii and DS sell well in the United States during February, but the duo also did very well in Canada. And, not only is Nintendo happy with its hardware performance, but a solid software showing too. Way to go Big N.

Looks like it’s about time for me to get an XBox
A_Boiled_Lobster - 03.17.07 12:29 pm
There’s at least one Wii in my local Target, of course its an Australian PAL Wii and thus more then likely non compatable with the area you live in MATTHEW. Now if only the employees knew what Wii Points wer I might be able to start downloading some Virtual Goodness.
