Hello Player 1

Suda-51 and the crew at Grasshopper have quickly become one of the teams to watch out for in the industry. Killer 7 was a sight to see, with its trippy storyline and beautiful artwork. I also thought the Contact was one of the best games of 2006. No More Heroes is quickly shaping up to be a must-own title.
During his keynote speech at GDC today, Suda-51 let loose a new trailer for his upcoming Wii title. Although the voice acting is awful, the game itself looks fantastic. No More Heroes retains the lovely art style of Killer 7, but you actually get to control your own character this time. You wander around a virtual sandbox, GTA-style, and take on missions as a professional assassin. Special combat moves appear to correspond to certain motions. If they can pull off the controls, this looks like it could be one of the best upcoming Wii titles.

Jeez…Suda wasn’t kidding when he said that he’ll try to best Manhunt.

SUDA IS THE MAN

I’d have to say the voice acting is wonderfully awful. Sure, it’s not the greatest, but I think it kinda fits the atmosphere of the game.

God I’m really digging this game I pray it ends up being good.

sure do hope the voice acting ends up better, though

I’m just a bit concerned about the story. Killer 7’s was f’n complicated and awesome, but I’m curious to see how they work this one beyond the simple “you have to kill X amount of people to be the best assassin” premise.

Kinda sucks that this game won’t be 1:1, but I hope it’s still fun.
On a side note I REALLY want to see what GoIcchi Suda (Suda 51) said during his keynotes. That man is insane.

I think the bad voice acting totally adds to the goofy premise–it all comes together. The fighting mechanics look interesting, with Wii remote moving to preform God of War-esque finishing moves. It’s hard to tell with the footage, but I hope the camera doesn’t become a liability.

I agree- I think that style of voice acting was definitely intentional.

Yeah, the talk was pretty good. He basically explained that there’s a need for “punks” like himself (and his company) in the industry. Very inspiring.
Plus, I was lucky enough to get him to sign my copy of KIller7.

It’s not as violent as Manhunt. I can only assume Suda is keeping us virgin until Manhunt footage is shown.
He has a long way to go to make it more violent in fact.
Spence on March 10, 2007 at 11:46 am
Oh yeah I think we can all agree the voice acting has taken a huge step up from the original teaser.

HAHAHAHAHAH I love the site, but I’m really sick of the obligatory “I think X game was the one of the best (fill in blank w/genre or just put ‘games’) of (year), and you’ve all heard of Y, so look forward to Z.”
