FlOw Nearly A Wii Title

During their speech today, The Game Company President Kellee Santiago revealed an interesting bit of information. It seems that the cult-hit PS3 downloadable FlOw was nearly a Wii title.

“That was the hardest decision we ever had to make, choosing between Sony and Nintendo. They weren’t right for us at the time. Sony kind of came to us with the process of incubation … They helped us get our studio started.”

It seems that while Nintendo was interested, they never did approach The Game Company about it. In fact, the team had to corner Nintendo reps at a previous GDC to even get them to listen. While Sony did get the exclusive on Flow, The Game Company did express interest in working on future Nintendo projects.

I hope that Nintendo wakes up soon and actually does something about their promise to work with independent developers and make new games available on the Virtual Console. FlOw is a beautiful little title that could have found an even wider audience on the Wii. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t see more independent titles on the Virtual Console, Nintendo just needs to get out there and recruit.
