by N Rumas - 02.25.07

I told myself I wouldn’t post about this, but my fanboy love for internet speculation won out in the end. In his latest blog entry, IGN’s Wii Overlord lets fly the following:
“There are some potentially crazy-awesome games coming down the pipeline for Wii, by the way. You guys have no idea. I know that’s vague — has to be, but I’ve seen some stuff that you simply have no idea even exists and frankly, if you did, you’d flip out. Comments like these have a way of backfiring on me and I’m sure some people will be annoyed that I’ve even brought it up, since I’m unable to give even a hint about the projects in question.”
I know what you’re thinking: What better way to spend a lazy Sunday than to speculate about the identity of secret Wii projects? No? Actually, to tell you the truth, that sounds like a lot of fun to me. Have at it below if you’re in the mood. I’ll start.

wishlist:
Hogan’s Alley Wii
A Boy and His Blob Wii
MULE Wii
seriously
N Rumas - 02.25.07 11:01 am
I’m surprised Nintendo hasn’t done a mario themed first person shooter type game — paintball of course in the sytle of Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, etc. That aside, I hope the unknown games are much more creative and unique.
I’d be really interested to see a marionette game of some sort as speculated on long ago…that would be perfect for the Wii remote.
On a slightly related note, I’m extremely excited for the Wii music that has already been announced…hopefully it is for music what Wii Sports was for, well sports. Also, Wii Health Pack will be HUGE, the next Brain Age.

“I’m surprised Nintendo hasn’t done a mario themed first person shooter type game…”
I know it was on rails, but does Yoshi’s Safari count? It had the Koopalings (as mech pilots!), and that’s gotta count for something.
MR_DNA - 02.25.07 11:48 am
Bionic Commando anyone?
Snailking - 02.25.07 11:53 am

At first I thought you were joking…but man, that actually sounds fun
N Rumas - 02.25.07 11:58 am
Pikmin Wii
Aaron - 02.25.07 12:12 pm
two words: Zelda wii
CP229 - 02.25.07 12:19 pm
I’m guessing one of the games he’s reffering to is a revival on the Wii, and another will most likely be a new IP (or one we’ve heard very little about).
Also, I’m sure he’s reffering to some awesome online game, that would certainly be worth flipping over.
Liraco - 02.25.07 12:20 pm
~Any point-and-click adventure. Myst?! I hope so.
~Phoenix Wright Wii. Thrust your arm+Wiimote forward like the ‘objection’ finger. That’d also be a good point-and-click.
~Wii White Water Rafting. That has potential.
D~N - 02.25.07 12:20 pm
I wish they’d break these dumb NDA’s. Nintendo’s particularly great with NDA’s as we haven’t heard anything from Nintendo about Paper Mario, a game coming out in a MONTH. When Shane from EGM posted about it, they quickly shut that down. Honestly, how would some press hurt Nintendo?
Dejital - 02.25.07 12:21 pm
Kid Icarus
Star Wars
F-Zero
Mario Kart
geekrecon - 02.25.07 12:30 pm
Pikmin Wii sounds dope as hell.
Uh… some good FPS games. They were just touching on it earlier, it would go with what they were talking about. Perhaps early releases for all of those damned good games (brawl, galaxy, prime 3) or perhaps he is refering to a VC game, didn’t he want to make one a while back?
Arcanis - 02.25.07 12:46 pm
mario paintball … genius!
trainwrecka - 02.25.07 12:48 pm
“Bionic Commando anyone?”
That’s in Capcom’s court. Same as new Duck Tales.
Its definetly not just a Pikmin 3 as he wouldnt be this excited. These has to be something completely new or something we’ve wanted for many years.
My bet is on a Kid Icarus as well or some crazy online game were you travel through time and space.
Sonic - 02.25.07 12:53 pm
Hah! MULE Wii. Great idea.
This sounds like a typical case of redundancy that asks for a good ol’ IGNore.
Little typo in the ‘Leave a comment’ section by the way: “URI”.
Fank - 02.25.07 12:54 pm
My guess: some major non-Nintendo franchises moved over to Wii, exclusively. Final Fantasy XIV?
Don Rosa - 02.25.07 1:15 pm
I’m dying for a Pikmin Wii. I know Miyamoto has sort of hinted at a Pikmin game for Wii. But man, last generation, that was the biggest surprise game for me. I ended up renting the game for Cube because I wasn’t sure what else to rent. Not for one second did I expect that game to be as incredible as it was. Man, looks definitely can be deceiving. But yeah, a Pikmin game for me will be just insane. There’s really not much else I wish for since the line-up of Wii games is already incredible.
Matthew - 02.25.07 1:48 pm
A white water rafting/canoeing/kayaking game would be boss. With real rivers all over the world, and lakes, and of course the ocean. And you’d have to camp on long trips (start the fire with flint and point and click to set the tent up). And you’d have to portage your boat on some rivers. And bail the water when it gets too high. And when you capsize you’d have to bring your boat to land, get all the water out and get back in the river from the shore. (Can anyone tell I want to go river camping? I hate winter) Though, in all honesty I don’t know how many people would like that kind of game as much as I would.
And of course a nice Final Fantasy killer would be appreciated, though, there is the new Crystal Chronicles to keep in mind. 9 was great, but I’ve just never been fully satisfied those games.
Atomsk - 02.25.07 1:51 pm
ATOMSK - a game like that would rock
Edgar - 02.25.07 2:04 pm
Don’t go expecting a Zelda Wii game until 2009. Those babys don’t get churned out back to back.
Shaun - 02.25.07 2:24 pm
Okay, I think some of you are missing Matt’s point. He says we “have no idea”, implying that they’re not simply Wii versions of established or forgotten franchises. I’m sure he’s talking about all new IPs. Not just that, but entirely new gaming concepts/genres. Otherwise, what would be so shocking? Pikmin for Wii? Gimme a break, we’ve all thought of that, and several other ideas that aren’t particularly revolutionary. I think Matt’s trying to say that there are games coming that we can’t imagine because they’ve never been done before, in any way.
Geoff - 02.25.07 2:26 pm
Oh God, Buddha, and Cthulhu, please let one of them be Project “S”!
Azathoth - 02.25.07 2:27 pm
Yeah, pikmin wii is pretty much a given. Nothing to really get excited about the possible announcement of! (the game maybe, but not it being announced) :-X
Hopefully some games that show the true motion sensing abilities of the wii!
aros2k - 02.25.07 2:31 pm
I bet it’s gonna be something really innovative and unique and fun with lasers like *peeow* *peeow* and monsters like *raaaarr* but no because that’s not innotative enougf it will have spaceships but theyll be underground like growndships omg ! and you jerk the wiimote back and forth to maek them move aned eat zombies because they’re poweredy by zombies so cool its gonna be auseome!!!
schtum - 02.25.07 2:33 pm
Of course there’s some “crazy-awesome” games coming for the Wii. Just like there are for the X360 or PS3. This is non-news. Just food for fanboys. I say he knows very little.
Dascu - 02.25.07 2:43 pm
My guesses:
Working title Capcom action game
Working title Square-Enix role playing game
Working title Square-Enix role playing game
Working title Activision sports game
Working title Konami action game
Or at least that’s how they should look in the press release.
Dejital - 02.25.07 2:46 pm
:x hey, canoeing game was my idea first!
~Wii Build: virtual construction. A Sims/Empire Earth style game, but the focus is not on “people’s relationships” or “attacking opponents”. Rather, the game is focused around the building process. Saw, hammer and drill your way from a small shack to a grand mansion! And when your all done…smash it down with your virtual wrecking ball! Slam your wiimote around all sorts of crazy ways and have a blast, almost like an advanced Lego experience.
D~N - 02.25.07 2:52 pm
i wouldn’t mind an expanded version of each Wii Sports.
TheRunningboard7 - 02.25.07 3:05 pm
Sandbox-esque game ftw.
Shiro - 02.25.07 3:12 pm
How about a game where instead of killing zombies, you play a zombie! And the whole point is to lie as still as possible in your grave! So what would happen is you have to hold the wiimote against your chest as still as you can to mimic lying in your grave. If you move at the wrong time, you’ll get noticed by the zombie killer.
Alright, no posting when drunk.
Willo - 02.25.07 3:38 pm
I’m thinking that it’s going to be…
Hogan’s Heroes Wii
OldenEye 008
and that game I can’t remeber where the giant face chased you and said “Run Coward, Run!”
BreakfastPills - 02.25.07 3:48 pm
Oh god, please let Mad Maestro be ported to the Wii! On a PS2, it’s interface was a disaster (it depended on soft, medium, and hard button-pressing, which is just insane), but it would be perfect on the Wii, *and* worlds of fun.
That Fuzzy Bastard - 02.25.07 4:21 pm

Kenofthedead - 02.25.07 4:51 pm
World of Hyrule

I like the idea of expanding wii sports, but I would like even more to see even more wii sports. I’d like one with Hockey (I hope it plays like the River city ransom one on the Famicom!)
shorty1k - 02.25.07 5:00 pm
I thought we read somewhere someone was going to develop a game using the new Unreal engine. I wonder if he’s seen a glimpse of that.
Whatever he’s seen, it’s probably pretty impressive because these are the first games to truly get designed to show what a Wii can do.
mongoloido - 02.25.07 5:04 pm
Castlevania Wii: a platformer but incorporates 3D such as Super Paper Mario.

New IPs.
Mario Paint.
Elite Beat Agents.
New Pinball game.
new Mario Golf.
New kirby.
Swords duel game.
rythm games.
Look at the old Wii trailers.

Crimson Warrior - 02.25.07 9:10 pm
There will definately be a Nintendo MMO. They didn’t add wifi out of the box for just web surfing, you know. It probably won’t be “world of hyrule” or anything, But probably something more akin to Dobutsu no Mori..*Cough* Animal Crossing.
The Indie games channel? Announced at GDC. With Darwinia. And Sam and Max! (Please!)
Want a Building game? Don’t forget Spore!
Ouendan/EBA Wii? Rocking. Definately on the way.
The possibility of Ace Attourney Wii just sends shivers down my spine…
Anyway, enough rambling, I’m sure the big N’s got a bunch of card up it’s sleeve for 2007/8. Since E3 is no longer as it were, GDC should be were Shiggy and Reggie will drop the bomb for the year ahead.
Muskie - 02.25.07 9:18 pm
A Nintendo MMO with friend codes, eh? That’s sure to work well.

Wii Shake.
It’s an RPG where you live in a shaker community and have to lathe all of your own chairs to sell in the town. Spin down the legs and then position them with the remote and hammer in the nails and such with the nunchuck. Pure fucking genius.

Dopple Boppler: I dunno what happened to that game. Seems to have fallen off the radar. I wasn’t digging the art style, myself.
I play the NES original emulated a lot. Love the simple style, the animations, and the music. I’d seriously go nuts over a Wii version…though I guess throwing those jelly beans would get a bit old after a while
N Rumas - 02.26.07 3:40 am
I’d say that the kinds of titles Nintendo needs right now are any combination of:
1. Titles that appeal to non-gamers\former-gamers.
(including non-games like brainage\nintendogs and remakes of classic games like excite-truck and wii-sports. I’m willing to bet Nintendo announce at least one of each this year).
2. Titles that help enforce a stronger relationship with third parties and independent developers.
(Like the level 5 developed Dragon Quest 9 for DS, or the titles by Cing\Inis. Also willing to bet for at least one of these announced this year).
3. Titles that have a unique visual\gameplay style that help separate the wii from its competitors.
(Maybe something along the lines of the bit-generations series done for the gameboy, and at a cheap price! Could be great as original VC content…)
Based on past remarks from the big N,these are the kinds of criteria that I believe any as of yet unannounced titles should follow. We should ask ourselves if the titles we want to appear on the wii follow these criteria…
Just my 0.2$ guys
n0body - 02.26.07 4:01 am
Zombie canoeing! You’re on a nice trip down some river in Montana, when all of a sudden zombies start ripping out of the bushes! Paddle like crazy to get away from a pack of zombies! Beat some to pieces with an oar! It’d be great.
benben - 02.26.07 4:06 am
Apparently IGN has no idea either… or as Games Radar puts it, IGN stands for “I got nothing”. http://www.gamesradar.com/us/ds/game/news/article.jsp?sectio nId=1006&articleId=20070222135450587083&releaseId=2006030816 2345714070
Slanderous speculation aside, my Wii-shlist is as follows:
VC: NES Blades of Steel
VC: N64 Goldeneye 007 (with wiimote support?)
Wii: Star Wars Battlefront III
Johnny C - 02.26.07 5:32 am
Apparently that link didn’t work.
How about a HYPERLINK about IGN stealing ideas
Johnny C - 02.26.07 5:33 am

martwrongun - 02.26.07 6:44 am
All of the first party Nintendo suggestions and revivals of older properties sound great, but the best news possible in this situation(in my opinion) would be a Wii-exclusive Nippon Ichi Strategy RPG >_>

First that ridiculous ‘gay characters’ list fiasco, now this. Somebody needs to tell Games Radar to get a hint.

I’m surprised Nintendo hasn’t done a mario themed first person shooter type game —
They did! It was called Yoshi’s Safari. You were Mario riding on Yoshi’s back shooting mario ememies with the Super Scope 6.
The game was complete with a giant Bowser robot boss!
VC game anyone? With the Wii controller…

“Just my 0.2$ guys”
Isn’t that 20 cents?
Blades of Steel on the VC would pwn all others! Except perhaps AllStar Baseball. That game was fantastic too.
And a remake of both with New-Gen graphics and Wiimote support would be SO AWESOME.
D~N - 02.26.07 5:09 pm
I guess it is 20 cents - sorry about that.
It was kind of a long rant though, so maybe 20 cents is more appropriate.
