Now that’s something that’s cool in my book. To promote their upcoming 5th Annual Scene.org Awards event, the people from Scene.org built a demo for the Nintendo DS to be used as a formal “invitation”. Complete with marbles jumping out of space, spinning models, cheesy taglines and the obligatory tunnel of doom, the dual-screen audio-visual presentation counts down to the night of the event while listing the various award categories.
The event, which will take place at the Breakpoint demoparty in Bingen am Rhein, Germany, will honor the talented demogroups responsible for making some of 2006’s greatest and hottest demos. You can download the Scene.org Awards Invitation Demo for Nintendo DS here. If your DS is in no way capable of running homebrew applications, there’s also a video version available here.
Wanna learn more about the Demoscene? Have a read at this Wikipedia entry and watch a couple of demos at demoscene.tv.

Yayness.
Can’t wait to see what these cracks can get out of the hardware. Seriously, (just as an example) coding a software speech synth, intertwine it in a meaningful manner with great music and gorgeous 3D and do all that in a paltry 64KB on the PC make me weep everytime over my wasted youth.
Really, when two demoscene coders talk shop, anybody without intricate knowledge on the subject is left in the dust. They max out hardware like it’s nobodys business.
I am *very much* looking forward to what the DS demos will be.
PC-Groups to look for: Farbrausch, Conspiracy, AND, kewlers, … and more. There are just too many.
Just browse pouet.net - they have a decent mixture of demos.
