Hello Player 1

It’s really interesting to see the tepid response the Nintendo community has had to Rockstar’s recent announcement of Manhunt 2 for the Wii. I can’t help but think about the February after the GameCube’s launch”¦ with the question on everyones mind being “Can Nintendo shake this kiddy image?” If GCN had nabbed a game like Manhunt 2 early on in its lifetime, it would have been some serious news.
My, how things have changed. Manhunt 2′s announcement has been met with a collective “meh,” from the community and a “Hey, they’re making it”¦ not us,” from Nintendo. Suffice to say Nintendo is certainly a different company than it once was.
Personally I’m not exactly sure what the heck Rockstar is thinking. It’s not like people are buying the Wii with the expectation that this is the types of games they’re getting. I’m all for diversity in the Wii library but the Manhunt 2 decision puzzles me.
It’d certainly be interesting to see how this whole “immersion” things works out with an intense, violent experience. People joke around about “strangling” people with the Wiimote, but I think it’d make for some intense, immersive experiences if done correctly. It’d certainly bring a new dimension to the whole violent videogames debate. Or maybe it’ll just be a phenomenal flop. We shall see.
