The above pic appears to be a simple NES controller, right? Wrong. What you’re looking at is a hacked Nintendo Entertainment System stuffed inside an old NES controller. This little device was put together by G-Force over on the BenHeck.com forums. What was once a big gray brick sitting in the TV shelf now rests in the palm of your hands. It even includes about 70 built in classic NES titles. If that’s not enough, there’s a slot on the back for NES carts to plug into the controller. Still not impressed? The creator went the extra mile and put an LED behind the “Nintendo” on the controller for some glow-in-the-dark goodness.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m amazed at all the hacks and hard-wirings technophiles have been doing lately with new-and-old Nintendo hardware. We’ve seen Wii-mote bluetooth devices, Wii on the GBA, and custom Wii software used to control home lighting, audio, and security systems. These mods aren’t all exactly useful, but to me it’s neat to see how much people are able to open up devices and modify them. I’m a car nut and hear a lot about how as cars get more sophisticated, you’ll see fewer and fewer DIY mechanics. Personally, that’s a bunch of rubbish. 10 or 20 years from now the kid who knows how to fix your “old” Wii will also be the one working under the hood of your car. Hmmm…imagine the awesome combination of auto-videogaming-LED mods there!
