After I posted the interview with SNK, I saw 1UP’s Metal Slug Anthology report and as many of you have pointed out they said the games will be playable with the GameCube Controller. I sent an email to SNK Playmore asking for clarification and received this response:
Sorry that we created the confusion regarding the controller. As 1up.com
says, it does support Gamecube controller. Please update this info in
the interview.
So it looks as though you will have even more options for blowing things up. I know that SNK Playmore worked hard making the new Wii interface, but sometimes I just want to play them the old way with my Hori Joypad. Nice to know I’ll be able to do so. On a side note I pre-ordered the anthology today. $39.99 for 7 excellent games is too good to pass up.

I think we can all let out a sigh of relief (even if this was previously confirmed). Thank God, I don’t think I could have lived on just Wiimote controlling. :]

My GameCube Hori D-pad controller has a very bright future.
…
I just hope Metal Slug Anthology doesn’t become hard to find in the following months after launch.

Vinnk, if I may just trouble you, but, could you ask them if being able to use the GameCube controller means the same thing as being able to use the Classic controller. Thanks.
To me it just doesn’t make sense to send the uninitiated to go out and buy a GameCube peripheral for a Wii system. I’ve always thought that the Cube stuff is in there as more of a service to Cube or (or soon to be) Cube software owners and better backwards compatibility functionality (i.e. controller icons reflected in games like RE4). The Classic controller, as far as I can tell, has everything the Cube controller had plus one additional shoulder button (four in all, correct me if I’m wrong on that). Now theoretically the Classic controller is for everything from NES to Cube games so theoretically, wouldn’t this mean that any Wii game that uses the Cube controller (i.e. Metal Slug, SSBB, etc.) could use the Classic controller?

Time to buy Metal Slug again!
Asche - 10.31.06 4:46 am
Hmm, Metal Slug had kind of slipped past my launch radar until recently. But judging by the gameplay videos, it seems like it’s going to be an awesome game to jump into and kill and bunch of people.

What questworld said. Please Vinnk?
I DO NOT want to buy not only a extra remote, a nunchuck, and at least one vc controller. And then a gc controller on top of all that. It’d be pretty lame if the classic controller is only good for vc games.
peshue - 10.31.06 10:40 am
Ok, your wish is my command. I will mail them again. But before I do, does anyone else have any questions?
Vinnk - 10.31.06 10:45 am
boxers or briefs?
boon - 10.31.06 11:22 am
Leather or spandex?
Yeah, I think the controller question is pretty critical, as it would be fairly lame if we had to go out and buy GC controllers on top of the ‘classic’ controllers.
Help us Vinnk! We must know!
DCSimian - 10.31.06 11:49 am
Well I could think of a ton of questions, but I doubt you want (or rather, are able) to interview them fully again. So, yeah, the controller question is important. I’d also like to know if they consider these ports to be “arcade perfect”, and if, besides the controls, there will be any extra console-specific features in the games. (As I own all previous MS games excluding 6 in their original MVS format, exclusive content is probably more important to me than to the average Joe who remembers playing MS in the pizza parlor, but doesn’t own any of them.)
RakubikiJiten - 10.31.06 5:09 pm
Acording to the press release they are arcade perfect and according to my interview they have added a 10th Aniversary art gallary. I also own all the MS games on either MVS or AES (except 5 and 6). $40 for MS 6 alone seems to be a good deal to me after paying $250 for MS3 on AES.
Vinnk - 10.31.06 7:43 pm
Wasn’t Metal Slug 6 the first non-AES/MVS game, and was only released on the Atomiswave? But maybe I’m just confused. Anyways, this basically means I am required to get the GCN adapter for my X-Arcade, because Metal Slug with a gamepad is nothing compared to a 2 ft. wide, 2-player arcade panel!
Luckybum - 10.31.06 11:17 pm
@Luckybum
Agreed. I might have to get an X-Arcade just for this.
