Is the Game Boy a Zombie?

Surely amidst the cries of joy over your shiny new Nintendo DS you haven’t forgotten about the Game Boy… have you? You remember, the third pillar? The thing without a touch screen? With only one screen and no microphone? Modojo certainly remembers the system, and claims that it is basically a dead system walking. Let’s hear what Iwata said about the situation at e3 2006.

“I would have a second thought about using our resources on what would be the next generation of Game Boy Advance, considering the strong support DS is now enjoying. The Japanese game market is now evolving around DS. We don’t need to do something that will pour cold water on the situation.”

Et tu, Iwata. Personally, I use my Micro for those situations where I have 5 minutes to play a little something. I’m planning on purchasing at least one more GBA game in the near future… and I think with a little dedication the Micro can become a real star. That requires a $50 or lower prices point and some new marketing. Stat.

What do you guys think? Does the Game Boy have a place into todays market? With the DS riding high and the Wii coming soon… does the three pillar strategy really make sense? Does the Game Boy even gel with Nintendo’s new “innovation” approach?
