Red Steel’s official dev blog over at IGN has been updated with some gorgeous new screenshots. I seriously hope this game ends up playing as good as it looks — it’s obvious that the development team has poured a ton of effort and passion into the production, and it’d be a shame if it all didn’t quite come together in the end. These latest screenshots (check out the hi-res images) really illustrate the emphasis that the team has put on atmosphere and mood, and I think you’ll agree that it’s looking seriously hot. Don’t forget to check out the awesome box art, either.

Woah It looks hot!… or wet!

It definitely looks good, but the huge amount of mixed previews of the game make me really worried. It seems like it’ll turn out to be one of those games that some people absolutely love while others totally despise.

The game looks fantastic, but like Peshue said, these mixed reviews aren’t too assuring.
I really hope the game is flexible in the controls department. And I wish they’d make it control like a PC FPS, with the gun moving the screen as well whenever you aim your gun.
All we can do is hope for the best. And right now, I’m trying my damndest to be optimistic.

While I’m glad that the Wii is going to have an excellent and varied selection of titles at launch … those THQ titles look absolutely retarded. The repulsive boxart doesn’t help matters.

May look good but I have heard that the gameplay is subpar
Quaddw - 09.28.06 11:13 pm
looking SHARP
I get it!
seriously, i looked at it 4 times before I got it.

I like the Monkey Ball box art. Possessed o_o

RedSteel has piqued my interest because it seems to be taking a somewhat new direction that looks really interesting to me. I don’t like many FPS so I am hoping for something a little different from the normal play style. Some kind of cross between a FPS and light gun style game like VirtuaCop would suit me fine.

Do you guys even know what your saing? The Wii is all about gameplay, (which is why i want it and think it will be great!) but your saing it may look good, but what about gameplay. So now the Wii has looks and i hope gameplay!

You know what? Screw all you skeptics, while you are busy sitting on your little fence, I’m going to be playing this game. Besides, some of my favorite games got some pretty mediocre reviews.
Critics think they’re more important than they actually are.

Gonna buy it on day one. If the controls arn’t perfect, I will be sad. But just the story and originality of the game (converting other Yakuza to your side by NOT killing them, etc.) Make this a must buy game for me. If they fix the controls as well, this is the new Goldeneye.

Red Steel’s graphics are certainly shaping up, and are actually getting close to (if not better in a few cases) than the original projected visuals of what UbiSoft showed us before E3. Wii will handle graphics just fine; all it’s going to take is time from a developer to utilize the machine like Capcom did with GameCube and Resident Evil 4.

I just hope they do what Retro recently did with MP3’s expert mode, freeing up the motion control to make it more like a pc/mouse configuration.
Different subject, but Wii box design rocks. Way cooler than the competition

yeah, you know, I really think I am buying this game on day one also. I wasn’t sure before but the more I think about it the more I want it. As far as the controls go, I will be understanding as long as they get the job done. Perfect controls would be nice but hey its a launch game with an entirely new control setup that had to be learned. I expect it might take some time to perfect programming for the Wii remote.
But I really gained some respect for Ubisoft with how much they are supporting Wii right from the start. This game is built from the ground up for Wii and it seems to be very cool. This game looks beautiful, all that technical crap aside, I have seen many screenshots that just show a simply beautiful design. I get the impression they have really put forth a ton of effort to make this game great. They just don’t seem content to make “crappy launch game”.
Besides, I am going to need several games to play on Wii this year, and Red Steel is by far one of the most promising games in my opinion.

I think after release peoples opinions will be just as divided. We all have to remember the bizzare amount of parallels The Wii has with the entertainment juggernaut that is the DS. Focusing on new gameplay possibilities instead of graphics, marketing itself to be accessable to those who shy from gaming, defying all conventional videogame industry logic…
…and problematic launch games. The real titles that make the world understand how amazing the Wii is are 8 or 9 months down the track, crazy diet/excercise games that entice non-gamers, ingenius new mechanics that will eventually be developed and evolved for 1-on-1 fighters and fpses, and best of all, crazy fun things none of us have even thought of yet. I just hope horrible ports by western developers isn’t another thing they share. The DS is a riot of great games, but they are almost all made by Japanese developers, Western games (including titles like ubisofts Splinter cell DS and king kong DS) either didn’t get the DS or weren’t trying, and in my opinion it’s both.
It’s obvious Ubisoft is trying now. But we don’t know if they’ve been given enough time to “get it” yet … And they have to launch. Here’s hoping, for all our sakes.

No more screenshots! Show us more gameplay video (and reactions to the controller movements)!
Pakl - 09.29.06 9:32 am
Don’t be stupid, look at the resolution of these screens (originally 1200×768): you and I know that the Wii can’t output this resolution.
But it still looks sweet, they’ve got nice workstations.
[MaSQuE] - 09.29.06 3:29 pm
Man, it still doesn’t approach the stunning visuals we’ve seen for the 360 and PS3. It’s like getting a good cake without the icing. Oh well, this thing better control like no other game I’ve ever played to be worth dropping money on it.
Ryan - 09.29.06 4:52 pm
Um, Masque, just because the jpg is 1200×768 doesn’t suggest the Wii can put out that resolution, it’s a high-res screen shot of the actual Wii screen. They’re not trying to pull anything over on you, they’re just creating a jpg large enough so you can see the actual detail of the Wii.
And besides, anyone who’s expecting this to approach “the stunning visuals we’ve seen for the 360 and PS3″, forget it. We know this isn’t going to happen. If you want that, buy a PS3. If you want a Wii with a cool controller, buy a Wii. Stop expecting PS3 graphics on the Wii.
