Hello Player 1

Our good friends over at Nintendojo have gotten Nintendo to clarify exactly how GameCube controllers will work with the Wii. Although most of this is fairly obvious, it is still nice to know for sure.
GameCube controllers can be used with all GameCube games and select Wii titles. It will be up to developers which Wii titles will opt to use the GameCube controller instead of the remote. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the only title known to be using the GCN controller right now. Despite the newer technology used for the Wii remote’s wireless capabilities, you will still need to use the WaveBird’s receiver in order to use one of those controllers. This is because the WaveBird used a radio frequency to transmit data, rather than Bluetooth like the Wii remotes.
Nintendo still remains coy about the use of the GameCube controller for Virtual Console games. They didn’t outright deny it, so the possibility still exists. Even though the GCN controller has a horrible d-pad, it still has plenty of buttons to be used for the VC.
