If you’ve been living in Europe over the past few months, you’ve probably noticed that certain DS games have been selling out every week. Nintendo understands that too, so they’ve announced that a list of select titles will be shipped in cardboard boxes until December.
The affected titles:
Super Mario 64
Nintendogs Chihuahua & Friends
Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends
Nintendogs Labrador & Friends
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Tetris DS
Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends
New Super Mario Bros.
While this does suck for everybody who loves those durable DS jewelcases, it will allow Nintendo to save some money and get copies of the games into stores at a faster rate.
This has only been confirmed for Nintendo Benelux, but it is strongly suspected that the rest of Europe will follow suit. Those in the affected areas can write in to Nintendo Customer Service and receive cases by the beginning of next year.

Wow that is rough, I’m a bit jealous of the American boxes myself having obtained Animal Crossing on import a while back. Our white ones are a bit boring…..

On the positive side, these may have some sort of collector’s value years from now.

sucks for them. but “Those in the affected areas can write in to Nintendo Customer Service and receive cases by the beginning of next year.”
So they can still get their cases later… and have these collectible ones for free

what’s the big deal? the heavy plastic cases these DS games come in all take up room in a box in the back of my closet as soon as I get them home anyways.
I’d rather the games get sold for a few bucks less and give us a nice biodegradeable cardboard box (like GBA games) anyways.

Buy a cardboard case, walk into a store steal a shelf case.. swap them over.
Do you feel like you have stolen? Hell no.

I really hated the GBA boxes. No matter how I tried to keep them in decent condition, something would always happen and they’d get flattened or torn or something spilled on them. In fact, while I haven’t gotten around to it yet, I plan on buying a bunch of DS cases and putting my GBA carts in them, since DS cases have a holder for GBA carts as well.
Actually, I probably have more DS games than GBA games at this point, so I could even put my GBA games in my DS boxes.

if this means we get the games mentioned at a bit of a discount i might just pick up a couple of the ones i dont already have..:p

I read the letter, and it states that people can actually demand a plastic case.
Benelux stands for “Belgie-Nederland-Luxemburg” in case anyone is wondering..
Fank - 09.26.06 3:00 pm
They must be thinking hardly anyone will demand a plastic one.

Ugh, the DS EU boxes where bad enough already (Why are they so bulky), luckily most of my games are jap/ US imports.
