Mario Strikers Charged (temporary name)
Format: Wii™
Game Type: Fighting Football
Players: 1-4
Developer: Next Level Games / NintendoKEY INFORMATION
Take to the pitch as Mario Strikers Charged (the follow up title to Mario Smash Football) returns with an all new roster of features, only for Wii.
Use the skill the Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controller provide to win the ball, score unstoppable goals and take control of the goal keeper to perform spectacular saves
Characters: Mario is joined by other famous Nintendo characters who take on the role of captain. Players then select a host of popular teammates to make up the rest of the team.
How to progress through the game: Players form an original team by combining one of 12 captains with three of eight sidekicks before competing in one of the games many modes. Anything goes in Mario Strikers Charged as players are allowed to utilize a variety of special abilities to clinch important goals.
Super abilities/power ups/moves/features: Each captain has their own set of skills, super abilities as well as the ability to perform special shots called Mega Strikes, where the iron ball splits up to five balls and flies at the goal. The defending player must use the Wii Remote to target and aim at and shoot these balls out of the air before they concede a goal. In this game players can also charge energy to the metal ball, making it more likely to find its target when fired at goal.
Each of the stadiums in Mario Strikers Charged have various characteristics and contraptions, which influence game play. Players must learn to use this to their advantage to truly dominate the pitch.
Multiplayer: Mario Strikers Charged will not only feature an action packed multiplayer mode but will also support the Nintendo WiFi connection service, allowing players to take part in tournaments with people from all around the world.

Jeez, Nintendo…we don’t need any more reasons to buy a wii!! I’m sold already!!
whaleyboy - 08.23.06 6:30 am
EXCELLENT
Online play, Sea units, buildings, Skirmish mode…
Woohooo!
Dascu - 08.23.06 6:37 am
why can’t real wars be solved by playing battalion wars?
jk
lojus - 08.23.06 6:44 am
lojus: I have the answer - friend codes.
Kevin - 08.23.06 7:00 am
I love Mario’s enraged teeth gnashing in those pictures. Clearly, he’s taking no prisoners this time round.
Toby Danger - 08.23.06 7:30 am
Hey Lojus, what if when we play games like battlaion wars we ARE fighting real wars . . . like Ender’s Game.
spooky
gravitymachine - 08.23.06 7:53 am
Mario Strikers should be pretty cool with the wiimote…
EPiPHANY - 08.23.06 8:29 am
If they make Mario Strikers a launch title, I’ll buy two Wii’s for no other purpose than to proclaim my love for Nintendo.
Marc - 08.23.06 9:24 am
Woohoo! I am super excited about BWii (clever logo btw). It looks to be fixing (adding in) everything that was missing from the original, and then some. Good show Nintendo!
Beni - 08.23.06 9:27 am
Alright! Two of my favorite (although slightly flawed) GameCube games are getting sequels… and they will be online! Awesome.
Nick - 08.23.06 9:43 am
ARgh! The Red Steel trailer showed nothing new. [/dissapointment]
Shinn - 08.23.06 10:14 am
Lordy that Red Steel trailer was the cheesiest. I felt so bad for the actor guy. I can just hear the director now… “so you’re going to be playing this video game, and you’re going to be near some splashing water, so we’re going to throw some _actual_ water on you. And you need to look really excited the whole time.”
Dynamo! - 08.23.06 10:33 am
What the heck…a 2:56 minute ad at IGN before the Red Steel trailer?
Thats almost THREE MINUTES. 30 seconds, I can stand. But THREE MINUTES?
Myles - 08.23.06 11:09 am
Battalion Wars online…oh sweet mother of mercy that’s gonna rock some socks! If done right…huge for online support!
DCSimian - 08.23.06 11:25 am
I really hope there’s somekind of voice chat for Battalion wars, otherwise I’ll have to bust out the cell phone to talk smack to my friends when we play.
peshue - 08.23.06 11:30 am
I’m very excited about strikers but I was hoping for some news and maybe a new franchise.
used cisco - 08.23.06 12:04 pm
Strikers looks awesome! I’m glad they built upon their simple little game. (It had too little to offer, I think.)
Donato - 08.23.06 12:21 pm
Now this is a nice collection of Nintendo Wii content. Super Mario Strikers Charged, Battalion Wars 2, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Sonic and the Secret Rings are looking good. It’s too bad that we didn’t get anything of megaton proportions, but hopefully that’ll be revealed come this September 14th.

Rayman is looking better and better. Every screen they’ve put out has been fantastic, if I can only get two titles at launch it would be Rayman and Twilight Princess. I can’t wait.
robotplague - 08.23.06 1:19 pm
So what’s the deal with the new Rayman? Is it an FPS now? I love Ancel so I’m stoked for this game, but does the Wii really need another FPS?
Dynamo! - 08.23.06 1:31 pm
kotaku has quoted one of the developers as saying that rayman won’t be a platformer, but will be sort of like a party game.

The Wii is so pimp. I’ll be spending so much time and money on Wii games that I won’t even have the time of day to even consider for a split second about buying a second console.
And if I did, I’d buy extra Wii’s for my relatives, friends, and convenience since it’s so damn inexpensive and fun. I can’t wait to play Mario Strikers online.
4ndy - 08.23.06 2:56 pm
I burst out laughing (much to the chagrin of my co-workers) when I watched the new Rayman vids and saw some of those screens. Michael and his team are pulling out all the stops, even lampooning splinter cell (and MGS4).
This is a must-have on my list of games.
Designerbradr - 08.23.06 3:03 pm
anyone notice that in the super mario strikers charge video that there was a goal keeping minigame using the wii pointer. looks like a pretty intense game. i think it was some kind of supershot and the player and to defend the net but hitting the ball back with the wiipointer(just pointing)
minigames within real games, warioware realy was a revoluotion. wonder will they incorporate such minigames into other games. like fighting games.
Stephen Crowley - 08.23.06 4:26 pm
leipzig = underwhelmaton. Raving Rabids looks awesome, though!
omg.kittens - 08.23.06 4:28 pm
MarioStrikers and BatallionWars are the first examples of the so-called “Wiimakes” = GC games with Wiimote controls and online play.
4ndy - 08.23.06 4:28 pm
Except they’re sequels. We could lodge that complaint at a lot of games on any platform really. Hopefully they learn from the issues of the previous titles and expand upon them nicely.
I’m kind of surprised about Batallion Wars, though, even if it had been rumored for a while. I was under the impression the first didn’t do so hot.
Tony - 08.23.06 4:47 pm
Mario strikers, battalion wars 2, Rayman, Red steel, metroid prime 3, super smash bros brawl, legend of zelda twilight princess, super mario galaxies, sonic wild fire (the new name sucks), wario ware, trama center seconde opinnion, and a nintendo wii…thats my chrismas list
some guy who knows were u live - 08.23.06 11:22 pm
dam ur a greedy child… but i want all that too
joe - 08.23.06 11:25 pm
The first really didn’t do so hot, but it was rushed. I think that Nintendo sees a lot of potential ion BW, so they definately made sure it’s sequel would come to fruition.
