Adding onto the charm they applied to Contact’s inside jokes and boxart, Atlus’ localization team has put together a clever manual worthy of accompanying the offbeat RPG. Contact has been consistently marketed as a DS title that shatters the fourth wall, and the booklet confirms that course with an introduction by one of the game’s main characters:
Hello, they call me the Professor. I’ve created this manual for you to check in case I happen to step out for a minute. I’m not very good at these type of things though, so it might seem a little rushed. I hope you’re able to make sense of my crazy moon language.
The rest of the manual is laid out as the Professor’s VirtuaDiary, its design and presentation an obvious nod to LiveJournal. Pages of neccessary game information are broken up into daily entries, freckled with shots of the Professor and his charismatic dog, Mochi. The VirtuaDiary even comes complete with copy-and-pasted surveys and friend requests from obscure bands, the latter being a MySpace byproduct.
Contact will be on US shelves this September 19th.

Can you add “19.5MB PDF file” to the link?
Tox - 08.18.06 3:13 pm
Acorn, I think he meant the manual is a spoof of Live Journal.

Man this game is gonna rock. Since I have a job, and I get overtime, this, Final Fantasy III DS, and Counter Strike: Source is what I’m getting. n___n

Neato. Looking forward to this one big time. Hopefully all of this online interest converts into realworld sales. It’s the only close DS game I’m extremely excited about.

I’m truly excited about this game.
Aaaaand…boy, I want to write for Atlus now. Sounds like a plan!
I love how they list “Thieving” as a “Vocational Skill”

Wow, I am so ridiculously excited about this game. It’s so refreshing to be seeing this kind of stuff.

Just a note: moon language or moon speak is a term rampant on the image boards of 4chan.org referring to Japanese or gibberish language us English-speaking folk can’t understand. Glad Atlus took notice.

Thank you Atlus!
I’m looking forward to this one.

Hahhh, yeah, I noticed that, Leonaken~!
I can’t waittttt, one month until Contact!
TOMATO - 08.19.06 12:25 am

This game struck me immediately when it was announced, much like PsychoNauts did. Thank god for Atlus. I was ecstatic when they announced they were localizing it, and have been eagerly anticipating it’s arrival. And much like PsychoNauts and Twilight Princess, I have stayed far and away from videos and screenshots of Contact because I want to have as fresh an outlook as possible when I do get my sweaty, quivering hands on this game.

Perhaps my last post was a little harsh. After cooling off a bit I thought I’d come back and take back the “retard” comment and just call you a “fool” for saying something so vile. Especially the “hail satan” part. What is wrong with you?
