Monochrome Memories

I remember spending my 1993 summer tucked away in a corner, lying on the carpet next to an air conditioning vent, engrossed with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on my Game Boy. Without the responsibilities of bills or even homework to bother with, I passed those middle-months exploring the green and gray landscapes of Koholint Island for hours. That wasn’t the first or last game that made me fall in love with handheld gaming.

Modojo has taken it upon themselves to honor the games that introduced us to not just what made the original Game Boy so great, but to what kind of potential was in store for us with portable gaming. While the color palette and CPU power may have been limited, we were never shackled by the amount of fun we could have.

Modojo’s Original Gangsta list praises 15 standout titles ranging from RPG gems to platforming masterpieces. If you missed any of these during your childhood years, make sure to track down at least one of them at a local used game shop, and spend a careless day or two with it.

Have any games that Modojo’s tribute unjustly excluded? Rant about it in the comments!
