Trauma Center: SO Clarifications, Exclusive Details

In light of recent rumors branding Trauma Center: Second Opinion as a “lazy port” of the DS surgery sim, Atlus has sent out a list of clarifications for the Wii game:

1. Trauma Center: Second Opinion will be a Wii launch title in North America.

2. Trauma Center: SO is NOT a quick-and-dirty port! It has new graphics and animation; new surgical implements and operation types; a second playable character with new missions; multiple difficulty modes; and a revised control system that takes full advantage of the Wii Remote. It’s a remake (or “Wii-make,” if you prefer) with gobs of added content.

3. The Famitsu article didn’t discuss all of the new gameplay elements in Second Opinion; more will be revealed in the months leading up to launch.

4. As with Under the Knife, the voice acting in Second Opinion is presented in the operation scenes to enhance the drama and punctuate the action–though it should be noted there’s a lot more of it in Second Opinion than in Under the Knife.

While this is all great to hear, many forgot that we reported most of the important bits months ago. In fact, we had the foresight to expand on some of the vague details that were released today:

This time around, the stylus is replaced by the Wii Remote which’ll be used as the various operation tools: scalpel, antidote, bandage, laser, etc. New to the Wii version is the defibrillator paddle. You’ll have to perform a “pushing” action towards the screen with the Wii controllers as if you’re shocking the chest of a patient who flatlines.

Next comes the story. One thing to note is that the game is a sort of remix of the DS version. Second Opinion’s story is split into two somewhat parallel stories. On one side, you play as Derek Stiles (with his partner Angie) following the same path found on the DS version, while on the other, you play as his rival, a new character that’ll follow a much darker story. Each doctor will have their own storyline until the later stages of the game where they will combine their forces.

Whenever we break you off some news, we always make sure we break you off proper.
