Having established itself in the handheld accessory field with well-received screen protectors, extendable styli, and system cases, Hori plans to further diversify its accessory lineup with the Play Stand DS Lite. The Play Stand grips onto your handheld and props up the system like a store display, taking the DS’ weight off your hands. The concept may seem superfluous, but arthritis and MPHC* sufferers will appreciate the thought.
The viewing angle can be adjusted horizontally and vertically, even holding the DS on its side for games like Brain Age. This setup could also be ideal for other titles that rely heavily on the touchscreen, or for users with wrists made of silly putty. Seriously, imagine how hard it must be to hang onto anything with silly putty wrists. It’s a damn shame.
The Play Stand DS Lite is available now at Play-Asia, priced at $14.90.

Wow, I had this exact idea except idea would of been glossy white, look alot better, and be held in by the gba port. On the bottom on the back would be a passthrough port where you could plug in a gba game so that they could still be played/plug in one of those movie players that go into the gba slot.

I can see the need, myself.
It wouldn’t really work with games requiring the L and R buttons, though.

MPHC? Not only do I understand what you are trying to say, but I like the controls on MPH alot and they rarely cramp me

As someone who has had to leave ANY game alone that required the use of my left hand for over a week now (due to a repetive stress injury from playing my lite improperly in bed too much)… I’m seriously considering this. The only saving grace is that this is happening now so I can nurse the thing to health before the release of all the games I want this fall.

That would be cool for Phantom Hourglass and whatnot, but I could see myself becoming dependant on that and not being able to play without it, thus ruining the DS Lites portability

Interesting concept, but it really defeats the purpose of HANDHELD gaming. Lets see them make one for the wii remote!

Referral link to make a little extra cash ehhhhh?
aechris - 07.18.06 3:20 pm
as far as i know, that should not be a referral link. that should be the URL for the product, for everyone. if there is evidence pointing towards the contrary, please let me know, and i will be sure to change it.

I completely agree with MPHC. Very clever : )

I can understand why people with arthritis or something would need it, so they dont have to hold it. But it still doesnt make an easy way of using the stylus and hitting buttons at the same time!

Hah, I’m an arthritis sufferer and that would be really useful.
About the Stylus — I took a small Expo Dry Erase Board Pen, tore the tip out of it and popped the back off of it. Then I washed it out, shoved a stylus in it and pushed it through so that the tip came out the nose of the pen.
I’ll post a picture on the boards when I can use my Damn digital camera again.

LOL! Nice engineering, there!

I think this is kind of cool, actually. For touch-screen-only games, of course.

This is a fantastic idea, I must say ^-^
Great for the elderly who’d play Brain Training
Krono6 - 07.18.06 11:42 pm
Yes, but how would it help for MPHC? You still have to reach around for the L or R buttons.
BTW, Clipse FTW!

MPHC is a very real phenomena…invented by me..only called DA CRAWWWW!
Anyway, how do you plug headphones into this thing, or rig it into a stereo?

For my stylus I just bought a big fat Belkin PDA stylus, and it’s awesome. Probably four times more expensive than an Expo (10 bucks instead of like 2 plus the cost of a DS stylus) but I’m thinking it’s weighted way better and it has a cushiony rubber grip.
Plus, the one I bought also has red and blue ball point pens in it (and a mechanical pencil, which I never use.) Sometimes I regret that, as I lend the stylus to one of my nieces and they inevitably end up trying to use a pen tip as a stylus.

I don’t think it’s worth it…
