Hello Player 1

There has been a lot of reliable information released this past week, but that’s all it is, information. It’s not that facts aren’t interesting or anything, it’s just that they really don’t get you thinking. That’s where rumours come in. Rumours get your mind going, they make you wonder and imagine. I’m sure Dr. Kawashima would agree that it’s a pretty good way of keeping your brain in shape.
So, without further ado, from the depths of the internet, here is your 4 color rebellion Rumour Roundup!

New DS Demos?
Rumours began circulating this week of the possibility of new demos in the DS Demo Kiosks stationed at stores around the US. The rumoured list follows:
-Big Brain Academy (playable)
-Metroid Prime: Hunters (playable)
-Magnetica (playable)
-Brain Age (playable)
-Tetris – Push (playable)
-Tetris – Standard (playable)
-X-Men 3: The Official Movie Game (Exclusive Movie)
-Over The Hedge (Exclusive Movie)
I decided I would check this out myself and went to the local EB Games. Sure enough, when I went over to the DS area, the sign had been changed and showed pictures of Magentica and Big Brain Academy. However, when I started up my DS and tried out the software, I ended up seeing the Version 1 demos show up. Perhaps they are in the process of changing demos?
Mother compilation for DS?
Mother (Famicom), Mother 2 (AKA Earthbound in the US – SNES), and the recent Mother 3 (GBA) all on one DS card? Yes please!
Fans of the series have been begging for Nintendo to release the games here in the US, and with the success of the DS, having all three on one game card seems like a no-brainer. Although only Mother 2 has been officially released in the US, both 1 and 3 have been the subject of many fan translating projects. Come on Nintendo, you can see how many people want this. If you can allow games like Elf Bowling to be released on the DS, why not something we have all been craving for years? On the plus side, even if this doesn’t happen, we can at least count on Earthbound being released for the Wii Virtual Console.
Dragon Quest IX Wii Exclusive?
SquareEnix is reportedly in the process of deciding if the next game in the Dragon Quest series will be released exclusively for Wii, the rumour stating that the destiny of a Dragon Quest IX Wii exclusive lies on the shoulders of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker for DS and Dragon Quest Swords for Wii. The Dragon Quest series is huge in Japan, even bigger than Final Fantasy is, so if Nintendo gets IX as an exclusive, they are destined to sell a multitude of consoles.
“Mana” MMO for Wii?
Another rumour without much to back it up. SquareEnix is supposedly working on an MMORPG set in the Mana universe, for Wii. With the strength of the Mana name (especially in recent times) and the success of many MMORPGs, I wouldn’t quite count this one out right away.
New button on Wiimote?
This next rumour comes from the latest issue of Nintendo Power itself. One of the included pictures shows a black Wiimote with what looks to be an indigo button, possibly a ‘Z’ button on the Wiimote itself. Curiously, none of the other pictures in the magazine show this. New button? Light reflection? Mind control device? Who knows! Nintendo did state that the controller shown at E3 still wasn’t completely finalized. One thing can be for sure though, the moment any information is released, you will find it here.
Krystal in Super Smash Bros: Brawl?
And what’s a rumour roundup without at least one obviously false one? A rumour hit the internet recently of Krystal (of Star Fox Adventures fame) being yet another new character in Super Smash Bros: Brawl for Wii. While it is entirely possible that she may make it into the game, the video that got people talking is most definitely fake.
That’s it for this week! A lot of these came from the EGM rumour section. Sometimes EGM is right on the money, sometimes it isn’t. If any further information on these rumours becomes available, you can be sure that 4cr will be on the case!

THe first one is true, as I tryed out Magnetica. Alot of this stuff is just really out there, seeing as how there is almost nothing to back up the DQ and Mana rumors. THis kind of stuff is best left to the GAF fourms really.
yanipheonu on July 16, 2006 at 8:29 pm
In this order:
-Probably
-I hope
-All signs point to
-Who knows?
-Probably
-Meh, Vyse is better. CUTLASS FURY!!!
space_bean on July 16, 2006 at 8:31 pm
A Z-button for the Wii-mote makes sense, that way they can easily port GAmecube games over, without having to screw with the controller settings more than they have to.
RockSteady on July 16, 2006 at 8:59 pm
I have the NP mag with that pic and it looks like the nunchuk attachment has the same mark or button on it. Look on page 29(dragonball z pose)
kojo87 on July 16, 2006 at 9:41 pm
that supposed purple button could well be a shoulder button ment to be used when holding the controller sideways in games like Excite Truck and Sonic Wildfire. its in the right spot but the coloring looks out of place. definately does not look like a simple reflection.
i have seen different versions of the Wiimote in various pictures though. Red Steel pics almost always have round sensors but no other ones do. this could just be a prototype we will never see again. but who knows
spire on July 16, 2006 at 10:01 pm
it would be impossible for that purple rectangle to be a button. it is placed on the wrong side of the controller for it to be usefull durring classic-style gameplay. when holding the controller as a game pad, the top (part with the d-pad) should be resting in your left hand, and if that were a true picture, the button would have to somehow be pressed with your thumb. not very ergonomic if you ask me, i think its a reflection or printing fluke.
rdkenshin on July 16, 2006 at 10:07 pm
“Dragon Quest IX Wii Exclusive?”
Definitely fake. Why would Enix base their judgment on 2 spinoff games and one of them isn’t even on the correct console? As always, the next numbered Dragon Quest game will go to the console with the biggest userbase.
Edgar on July 16, 2006 at 10:11 pm
what do you mean, “one of them isn’t even on the correct console?”
Fernie417 on July 16, 2006 at 10:16 pm
At least the first one is true, as that has been the demo listing over at the Nintendo World store for the last month.
VideoGamerJ on July 16, 2006 at 10:34 pm
I could have confirmed the DS Demo thing the day it happened, working in retail and all. Perhaps a future reference.
rdkenshin on July 16, 2006 at 10:36 pm
@ Edgar.
Why would they decide if DQIX goes to the Wii based on a DS game? That makes absolutely no sense.
Edgar on July 16, 2006 at 10:51 pm
@rdkenshin – ok I see your point. But i’m guessing someone owning a DS as more chance to get a Wii over a PS3
Christian on July 16, 2006 at 11:20 pm
Since Earthbound’s only been released once outside Japan, if they WERE to bring the whole series thus far over, anyone think they’d revert to the name “Mother” outside of Japan?
N Rumas on July 17, 2006 at 12:18 am
I wouldn’t completely rule out the DQ rumor. Look at the latest polls from Japan, Wii is so far ahead it’s not even funny.
elfman13 on July 17, 2006 at 12:56 am
I found that bule button on the side of the wii-mote in another pic on page 29.
and the ds download station thing is true, I downloaded magnetica and big brain acadamy about 2 weeks ago.
Hamblasto on July 17, 2006 at 1:05 am
That “button” looks more like a reflection of something like lighting of even a TV.
cubeenigma on July 17, 2006 at 2:05 am

N Rumas on July 17, 2006 at 3:16 am
I want Rygar
ALH on July 17, 2006 at 5:18 am
i wouldnt mind seeing some ouendan in ssbm
James M on July 17, 2006 at 5:21 am
I think it’s a Sync button because it would normally be inside of the battery cover, but the corded controller doesn’t use batteries…
BAINICK on July 17, 2006 at 5:34 am
Well there is a Mother nes cart around in English (NTSC) so the translation for the first game is already done. I don’t see why Nintendo couldn’t rerelease the Mother series in other countries outside the east. Maybe even in PAL???
wht.rbt on July 17, 2006 at 5:39 am
You want FF chars?
I’ll bet you anything that a moogle appears in SSBM.
amanaplan on July 17, 2006 at 7:36 am
I strongly doubt it’s a button for the fact that its position goes against the rest of the design scheme (all buttons on top, remote is therefore ambidexterous).
While it would be cool if DQIX became exclusive to Nintendo, I doubt it’s a decision that would be determined even in part by a DS title, or be considered by the company before the Wii is even available.
Ian M on July 17, 2006 at 9:36 am
Well, the most important thing is that supposedly Mother 3 has been confirmed by NoE as a December release in England. Based on that, I assume that they’d try to release it to the widest market possible, possibly doing the ‘ol Pheonix Wright undersell. Make just enough copies to quell the fanbase, and if it starts getting successful, THEN do a wider release. Why do an english version if you’re only going to release it in a place where I don’t even think the original came out?
I don’t care. I’d buy two copies of the game the day it came out, to show them I mean business. Literally.
washingsolution on July 17, 2006 at 10:00 am
I was worried about the mystery button on the wiimote at first, because I’m left-handed. Luckily, in another picture in that NP, it shows the remote from the other angle and there’s another button.
asianhitler on July 17, 2006 at 10:41 am
How hard is to belive DQIX might be a Wii exclusive depending on how the DS and Wii title do? If those titles do well then that means there’s alot of user base for nintendo. If it doesnt do well then back to the ps2 it goes.
Dejital on July 17, 2006 at 11:21 am
MMO’s not happening on the DS. Too much lag for a little DS to handle. However, a game like PSO where you get a group of 4 people online would work well.
Repsode on July 17, 2006 at 12:05 pm
DQ is one of two series( guess the other one)in Japan that’s bigger than any system, Gamers would willingly buy into a rival format if it had a game in the series, Swords is a good start, but if it were to get a main series game exclusive, it would make the PS3 literally half-dead in that region, it’s that important to have the franchise on your system. If the other series were ever to switch as well, you get at best an unremarkably selling PS3, and at worst, Xbox 360 sales.
spire on July 17, 2006 at 12:17 pm
update: the mysterious purple “button” is nothing more than an ID tag with a serial number to identify the prototype systems and controllers.
Shih Tzu on July 17, 2006 at 1:19 pm
Actually, the Mother 1 English translation is official and not a fan translation… The copy you may have (ahem) heard about was made from an actual finished English prototype that just simply went unreleased. So Nintendo actually has two Mother games already translated.

So far Vol.2 of the DS Download stations is only available at the NWS, according to the NWS.
Mason on July 17, 2006 at 1:48 pm
Why would anyone want a Final Fantasy Character in SSBB? Final Fantasy Sucks!!! We need original Nintendo characters.
SpottedNigel on July 17, 2006 at 3:20 pm
Downloaded the Magnetica demo about a month ago from the Gamestop down the way. Pretty damn fun
krypt on July 17, 2006 at 6:04 pm
Dragon Quest 9’s platform will be determined by installed base, not the success of other DQ related games.
The lack of a hard drive does not bode well for the Mana MMO rumor, it could always be optional/plug-in though…
lionzub on July 17, 2006 at 6:25 pm
I see all the DQ rumours everywhere, I certainly would love to see DQ9 to show up to the Wii because it is the console I want to get!
You can also go to the official DQ Fansite owned by S-E to hear about the latest news first:

Krypt – The Wii will support external USB storage, so couldn’t you use your iPod or something to save ManaMMO?
Skyelan on July 18, 2006 at 12:01 pm
What’s hard to believe about Dragon Quest coming to Wii?
The games, even 8 (Which was more of lesser power but more style), have never been the “UTILIZE THE RAW POWER” fests that the main FF titles have been.
And as for user base, let’s not kid ourselves. Japan, while not totally turning their backs on PS3, do not want it much. Sony’s products are slowed and delayed, they’re in the friggen hole with so much debt. At the same time, Japan is Wii crazy.
If you put out a game that you want to sell the most to the most people with, and you know whichever you choose people will generally flock to, would you put it on a 600 dollar system with an umproven media format that developers and consumers are expressing major doubt in, or do you put it on a 200 dollar system that your region is on fire for. No brainer.
Cheeseball701 on July 18, 2006 at 3:26 pm
@Hurricane Mario-*Friendly reminder to use tiny URL
I really hope the mother rumor is true, except I hope they bring the GBA carts over, unless they plan to do something cool with the second screen. (Touch Screen menus)
Katon on July 18, 2006 at 5:06 pm
Curse you, rumors… Now the thought of Mother 1+2+3 will be in my mind for weeks to come. And it’s probably fake. T___T
Dwight House on July 19, 2006 at 12:54 am
Glad you liked the fake video. I had no idea that it spread so far. I would like to see Krystal in SSBB for obvious reasons.
BJ on July 19, 2006 at 2:13 pm
Demo rumour is true, unfortunately.
Krystal in SSBB? I called Pit in SSBB, so how about another overlooked 8-bit character: WART!!! (from the US SMB 2 for those not in the know)
