Square-Enix added a new gameplay video on their Final Fantasy III site today, showing parts of the Cave Demo that was playable at E3 2006. Evil loading time speculations begone!
There have been some rumors floating around that the North American release of Final Fantasy III might be pushed back to give Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime a chance to generate some sales without being overshadowed. Online retailers like EBgames and Gamestop have already changed their product shipping date to reflect this possible delay.

Update Here’s a video of Final Fantasy III from its heyday running on a Famicom. It’s the same cave area shown in the remake video above. It’s nice to see a side-by-side comparison.

It’d be pretty sweet if you could unlock the original version of Final Fantasy III after you beat it.

Oh man, oh man. This game looks so awesome.

pretty cool video.. dungeon footage =
though
and it would be way better if they made contact in the fights
still looks great though

one half of brain: way to beat a dead horse of a game interface
other half of brain: OMG the camera angles! the music! the fact that I haven’t played an RPG since KOTOR!

“It’d be pretty sweet if you could unlock the original version of Final Fantasy III after you beat it.”
That’s honestly been my hope since this was announced. I suppose there’s a chance, but I don’t know how problematic it would be to also plop the translation into that as well.

man if they released final fantasy 7 for the ds, you would see me for like a year
Quaddw - 07.13.06 12:40 pm
Speaking of delays, I heard there is loading times in this game.

@JPS
The interface is like the older FF`s, but you can actually use your stylus to select the options and select your targets. From my play time with the game at E3 it actually plays really well using the stylus to do pretty much everything, including moving around on the map.

It’s pretty much been said at this point that where ever that example of it being displayed was not running off a traditional DS cart, but rather some sort of computer.
The video doesn’t really show any load times of the length of that display that’s being talked a bout lately.
Tony - 07.13.06 2:03 pm
There didn`t seem to be any loading times when we were playing it at E3, the only time it loaded was during transitions between screens, so it was pretty much transparent.

I cut that off accidentally… I also meant to say that the whole computer thing hasn’t been absolutely confirmed, but I’ve been reading it at a lot of places.

It’s amazing how (so far, at least) it looks EXACTLY like the original, only in 3D. I was getting chills from the memory of playing though the original, and seeing it in such a great new look.

GAME WANT!
This is the only game I’m planning to buy between now and Wii time (
Too poor. Need to save up.)
Plus I need a new RPG to pass the time till Wii. Playing Skies of Arcadia for the fith time in a row is getting a bit tiring, though still fun.
yanipheonu - 07.13.06 2:34 pm
By the way, is the movement in the game, Animal Crossing style??
yanipheonu - 07.13.06 2:54 pm
Impressive… most impressive.
Why can’t Square remake FFVI this style?
geekRECON - 07.13.06 5:07 pm
I can understand them pushing it back. I wanna see how good Mario Hoops can do without being overshadowed.
Marc - 07.13.06 7:11 pm
Why not port FF7 to the DS? xP
It will still play better than today’s games after all these years.
