UK’s electronic/pop music duo Pet Shop Boys will be releasing the second single from their latest album Fundamental on July 24th, a song in which Animal Crossing fans might find a little something that sounds somewhat familiar…
The song, titled “Minimal“, contains a small segment of the corus where you could swear that you’ve just heard Mr. Saturday-Night K.K. Slider. Obviously, seeing how K.K. hates those industry fat cats, there’s no way he’d go commercial, but listening to a side-by-side comparison is just enought to be convinced.
Are the Pet Shop Boys secret Nintendo fans?

Theyre just comparing KK’s voice right? Cause it doesnt sound like either of KK’s songs.

Yah i agree with Nobullet, other than the voice it sounds nothing like the songs. I didn’t even notice the resemblence till i played them twice :/

I love Pet Shop Boys. They did a wicked remix of Bowie’s Hallo Spaceboy

Who knew the Pet Shop Boys were still aroung?

It’s “vocoder”, though KK’s voice has always sounded more like a voicebox (as in “Birthday” by the Beatles or “Do You Feel Like We Do” by Peter Frampton) than a vocoder. Of course, what people can do with vocoders has gotten really sophisticated in the last decade, like “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys or “Believe” by Cher.
// has actually used vocoders

how can you not be Nintendo fans?

Raindog, Cher’s song used time stretching/resampling to achieve that sound, not vocoding.

Actually, if I know what song you’re talking about, I think Cher’s song was just using hard tonal correction. I’ve actually achieved a similar sound unintentionally while trying to lightly correct my voice in a song. Also, RAINDOG is correct in saying that the Pet Shop Boys are using a vocoder. If one is to listen closely, it is clear that they are actually saying words, wheras KK pretty much just uses preset vowel sounds.

A vocoded voice and you think it’s K.K.? Get some sun!

Pet Shop Boys are still alive?! Aren’t they the relic from the 80’s???
If they really owned a pet shop, then they could be Animal Crossing fan. Minimal as in Mini-Animal? Hidden meanings as like in Da Vinci’s Code? Maybe if you play the song in reverse, you can hear them singing, “I am a Nintendo Mole, you are not allow to reset the game, its like real life, you have to treasure every moment, blah blah blah.”
