Now this is cool. There’s been a lot of talk (and a lot of joking) about the whole ’strap Wiimote(s) to body and go crazy’ thing, but this is the first time I’ve seen a convincing rendering of the concept put into action. I sure hope Nintendo has something like this is in the works…all I can think about is Wii Punchout!! Just hope they find some way to make sure the Wiimotes don’t slide out every time I throw a punch - that velcro strap in the pic ain’t gonna cut it, not with guns like these!…

I’m gonna get a coffee can and paint it blue so I can pretend I’m Megaman!

I don’t think Nintendo wants to bring back bad memories of disappointment.

there’s some special little clips for securing the plugin peripherals in the base, plus the groove for sliding the wiimote into controller shells like the handgun shown at e3. I’m sure these things could be used to make the wiimote secure in one of the funky wrist strap things.

Woot! I posted this in the forums a few days ago under the 3rd party Wii-mote topic, shame nobody saw it. Yeah so it’s pretty cool but the 1 and 2 buttons (X, Y or a, b) are covered by the glove.

This all fits in with my plan to rename the human species as The Bifistacons. I’m sick of having such a crappy species name.
Willo - 07.05.06 5:35 am
Lets strap a wiimote to a virtual boy while we’re at it.
NoBullet - 07.05.06 5:39 am
Oh wow! I can definately see this in a new X-men game (Wolverine first-person-slasher anyone?)
Marc - 07.05.06 8:34 am
I can do the same thing with duct tape. And it’s much cheaper.

Shawn - 07.05.06 8:57 am
Haha! My first thought was Wolverine too!
Still, I’d wear it out of the house…

Two words: AWE SOME.
amanaplan - 07.05.06 10:54 am
The cool thing is that, with boxing gloves on, you can’t really move your wrists - it’d feel the same with that reverse wristguard style the pic shows. Very cool. It’d really make you feel like a badass
N Rumas - 07.05.06 11:07 am
First thing I thought of was Metroid! Analog stick in one hand, and the Wiimote attached to your wrist just like an arm cannon… Ok, so it would work for Megaman too. But this would be freaking awesome!
Matt Armstrong - 07.05.06 11:21 am
O.K. Matt, so we can add Metroid to the “games that this peripheral is good for” list.
Metroid
Megaman
Wolverine first-person-slasher
Wii Punchout (Mike Tyson’s Punchout 2)
C’mon guys keep ‘em comming!
Marc - 07.05.06 11:59 am
if anyone hasn’t noticed yet, Red Steel is having trouble with just the apparently simple sword fighting. I think we should all slow down on Punch Out re-deauxs.
I’m not sure we really know where the technical limitations are. it has me worried for sure.
ZaBlanc - 07.05.06 12:31 pm
I really hope they pack two controllers with every system. If they did all the would have to include with the actual game would be the disc and some cool gloves.
robotplague - 07.05.06 12:45 pm
Anything less than two wiimotes in the box would be a miscalculation for a company trying to get nongamers and families playing together. Nothing’s more frustrating than getting home and realizing you need to pick up another controller.
amanaplan - 07.05.06 12:47 pm
@ Amanaplan… After working retail, it’s obvious that laymen expect that everything they’ll need is in the box and if you try to ask them if they are going to play 2p+, they think you’re trying to rip them off and god forbid you mention the notion of a memory card… At least with Wii there won’t be the issue of the memory card any longer. But yes, 2 wiimotes would be nice.
dj - 07.05.06 12:57 pm
I tossed around the idea of metroid when I saw this, but how on earth would you hit any of the buttons on the remote? If I remember correctly, MP:C Uses “a” to shoot, which is the big button on the upper middle of the Wiimote. If that is covered, or not accessible, hwo would they shoot?
My only idea was that you could dual weild Wiimotes with a nunchuku in each hand, but that lead to geek spasms and I wasn’t able to come up with any id-*seizure*
Arcanis - 07.05.06 1:30 pm
^Ooo yeah, good point. You would have to hit the “A” button wouldn’t you?
So I guess Metroid and Megaman are off the “games this peripheral is good for” list. So that leaves,
Wolverine first-person-slasher
and
Wii Punchout (possibly Mike Tyson’s Punchout 2)
So does anyone else have a good idea for this peripheral, yet still makes sense?
Marc - 07.05.06 2:16 pm
Well, you could play it actual metriod or megaman style, where they hold their arm cannon when they fire, but that would be kind of annoying to do. Perhaps it is best just to use it regularly.
Arcanis - 07.05.06 2:25 pm

David - 07.05.06 3:52 pm
afaik, using guns in boxing will get you disqualified. but technically you’ll get a knock out at the same time.
Matt - 07.05.06 4:56 pm
O.K. so now it’s.
Wolverine first-person-slasher
Wii Punchout (possibly Mike Tyson’s Punchout 2)
and
Spiderman 3
Anything else?
Marc - 07.05.06 5:19 pm
Shawn: “I can do the same thing with duct tape. And it’s much cheaper.”
Sure, and I would probably do something like that, too, but if games are going to be designed for this type of control, a proprietary version needs to be available. Nintendo can’t expect everyone playing the new Spiderman game to willingly duct-tape the controller to their arm. (not that this prototype is proprietary…yet…)

Developing homebrew for the Wii is going to be _awesome_.
obo - 07.05.06 10:50 pm
OBO,
yeah, I read on Joystiq a while back that the Wii might end up being the ultimate hack system. Oh, well time will tell……
Marc - 07.05.06 11:05 pm
The answer of how to hit A for metroid/megaman seems simple. Pick up your left arm, place above your right arm. Push A with index/middle finger of your left hand. Heck you could probably push every single button on the right hand wiimote (A, 1, 2, +, -, home, D-Pad) except B. Heck if you could hang on to the right nunchaku with your thumb, pinky and ring finger of your right hand you could reach over to the left wiimote and hit buttons of less importance than the ones delegated to the all important easy access right.

it would work well for some sort of puzzle/ mystery game, like you could manipulat objects with your hands to search for clues or something.

Mike Tyson’s Punchout 2…hilarious…amazing…I WISH… I think Mike could use some more money.
