Opera has put up a small teaser site for their upcoming DS and Wii browsers. While there isn’t anything available for the Wii yet, the DS side has a tour of Opera’s handheld features along with several browsing tips:
Some web pages do not feature a “submit” button after filling out a form. Never fear, you can keep filling out those forms at lightning speed by simply clicking the text field, entering your information and tapping the handy “submit” button on your on-screen keyboard. Tired of tapping? Simply press the “A” button on the right side of your DS as another “submit” button alternative.
Pictured above is a mocked up advertisement at the site showing a surgeon looking up Stomach Surgery for Dummies on his DS lite (I’ve already checked — the site doesn’t exist.). I imagine he’s thinking to himself, “Holy crap, this is nothing like Trauma Center at all. Why did I tell everyone I’m a real surgeon?! I am so screwed…”
There is also an unfinished “Caught in the Act” section. I don’t know about you guys, but only one thing comes to my mind when I hear those words. Make sure you lock your bedroom door next time before loading 4 color rebellion’s staff page.
Update: Opera has since taken down their link to the “Stomach Surgery” ad, but you can still view the image here.
Update 2: The Caught in the Act page has been updated to include photos of people caught using the browser in compromising positions. One picture has a bachelor spending a lonely Friday night at Match.com, while another shows a guy looking up sports news and wearing an ugly shirt. Neither are situations that you want to be found in. The most interesting detail out of the batch of snapshots is a screen showing users messaging each other in a chat room. IRC support possibly?

-1 for using the term “old school” in a derogatory fashion (a common clueless marketer’s mistake.) But otherwise, not bad.
I assume that surgery picture up above is a 4CR joke that went over my head, because I couldn’t find it anywhere on that teaser site or on its forums.

Someone should buy that domain, it is free advertising.
Arcanis - 07.04.06 6:09 pm
Way ahead of you on that one, Arcanis.
James Montagna - 07.04.06 7:12 pm
Lol you linked it to your site. Nice one.

Aww, I guess they took the advertisement off because I purchased the domain. My bad. I would have helped promote Opera for Nintendo too.

“IRC support possibly?”
the desktop opera browser has a built in IRC client, and since the DS version is built on the same core, it’s assumable that the DS will also have this feature

If not, there are certainly enough Ajax/Javascript IRC clients out there now, and maybe someone will tweak one to work well on one of Opera DS’ display modes.

Oh yeah, and the Caught in the Act page is back to “coming soon” again

Did anyone save the images? I so wanted to see them :/
