New Super Mario Bros. Challenge Mode
Thought you’d done all there was to do with New Super Mario Bros? You rocked Bowser Jr’s face off, collected all the Star Coins, and figured you were the cat’s pajamas? Think again, young whipper snappers. Until you’ve played New Super Mario Bros’ recently discovered Challenge Mode, you’re just a weird kid wearing your mom’s kitten-patterned nightie.
Gamers who’ve already finished the game will be able to access this secret Challenge Mode by hitting Start in the world map and pushing the following combination of buttons during the Start Menu:
L R L R X X Y Y
So what sort of obstacles does the game set against you for this challenge mode? Tougher enemies and tighter level design? A white, disembodied head that doesn’t just chase you in the game, but stares at you from outside your window while you sleep at night? Having to beat a castle while your mother bangs on your bedroom door, yelling at you to give back her nightgown?
Unfortunately, it’s nothing too fancy like the examples above. Challenge Mode puts a forced scroll on all the levels just like with the original Super Mario Bros. game. Players will no longer be able to backtrack, picking up coins and power-ups that were left behind.
With new secrets being found almost two months after the game’s release, who knows what other mysteries are still waiting to be found. Hot Koopa Troopa Mod?

Gamefly Rocks. It works well and saves me a lot of cash. Plus, you can rent some hard to find games (Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, etc.). I rent games, and if I like them, I keep them (you pay a much lower price than retail.).

Hey Link – the same thing happened to me – make sure you check all those newly unlocked warp cannons – if any of them are red, you still need to visit them to get the full completion.

Yeah I did play all of the multiplayer modes with a friend too, he really sucks at mario games so I forced him to play. The minigames were fun, but it was only the two of us :/

Hey! This code doesn’t make me want to play the game through again at all. Imagine that! (Also, not challenging at all.) Maybe if I’d known about it from the beginning, I suppose. But all it really does is just make the game feel like a step backwards after every other Mario game since the first. Meh.

Maybe after you beat it in “challenge mode” there’s another code to enter to enable an actual “forced scroll mode” (whatever that would mean in a game where some levels zig zag all over the place….)

The levels don’t scroll, they just don’t allow you to go backwards. Some levels don’t work if you can’t go back though so there’s an arrow icon to the overworld map – when its colored the level uses the new “Challenge Mode” (no backtracking), when it’s grey the level is normal.
I agree with the general sentiment here – this mode doesn’t give me much reason at all to replay the game. I loved the game but I really wish they had more replayability. When I saw this headline I thought it might be it – a new harder mode to challenge me. Unfortunately it’s no such thing.

This challenge mode does affect some levels and how you play them, it’s not exactly the same since some levels do have instances where you can get stuck. The roundabouts you must do to pass these levels are harder to pull off than the traditional way, like Tower 2 in World 6. Even if you might not see a huge increase in difficulty in that level, you should notice something different about it, I guess.

Hey, i read every where that to get to locked worlds 4 and 7 you have to defeat the boss of the last castle of worlds 2 and 5 as mini mario……..ok…………how the F do you do that? there is no way to bp thgem on the head as mini mario, and no other way to beat them. please help me, thanks

Yo i figured out tht u can get infinite big mush houses, green mush houses, and red mush house.
Red: On timer any number ending with 11 22 33(you must jump on the pole though lol).
Green:44 55 66
Orange:77 88 99
Warning if u have a house in the beginning already, it wont work.
