As a staunch advocate of DS Homebrew, I feel it’s also my duty to expose the darker side of our hobby - one that exploits the hard work these talented people do in order to cause anonymous anarchy in order to spoil the fun for thousands of other people. You’ve seen it in Mario Kart, you’ve seen it in Tetris, and of course, now you’re going to see it in Metroid Prime: Hunters.
Thanks to a trainer officially released today for he game, hackers now have the ability to boot into the NWC with the trainer active, and do any or all of the following things:
* Infinite Energy
* Infinite Missiles
* Infinite Sub-Weapon
* Hold B To Levitate
The worst part is, according to the NFO, the trainer was created SPECIFICALLY to barge into Wi-Fi games, spreading general dickery all around - like a cancerous cyst, spewing pus everywhere. Beware, gamers. The onslaught commeth.
source: GBATemp

well, all i can say is, metroid was fun well it lasted. The infinite misslies and sub weapon i could live with, and i could even tolerate the levitation. But the infinite energy is the one thing that will ruin the game.
Lil_fighter - 06.30.06 1:54 pm
That sucks. I worked hard to get to my rank, I played honestly. And now I can be beaten by the most insignificant noob. It makes me sick!
But this isn’t the first ‘cheating’. People have been exploiting glitches to win matches. This one guy, I was whopping his ass in the first minute then he did the wall glitch, I couldn’t hit him yet he could hit me. In the end he beat me 7-1. It really pissed me off. I haven’t played online since then. Don’t think I will again.
TK-Linx - 06.30.06 2:00 pm
Ugh :|
Treasure Skunk - 06.30.06 2:15 pm
Wall glitch, TX-LINX?
And I fully agree. The fact that hackers do things like this just to ruin peoples’ experiences is horrid.
Maybe Nintendo should implement anti-hack measures, like checking the players’ energy each time they get hit.
LSK - 06.30.06 2:19 pm
They don’t do it to ruin your experience, they do it to have their own kind of fun. Do you think someone brings a 5th ace to the card table because he wants you to cry or because he wants to win?
amanaplan - 06.30.06 2:21 pm
amanaplan said:”Do you think someone brings a 5th ace to the card table because he wants you to cry or because he wants to win”… well of course theu do it for the win, cheaters should see their DS explode intehir hands ripping a finger or two, they don’t deserve to play nor own a Nintendo product, true Nintendo fans are loyal & intelligent players, they love the game, P$P ****head tactics… just imagine the wicked/twisted joy they get from cheating, cheaters are plain loosers blinded by their noobness… I hate them!!!
GameGod - 06.30.06 2:30 pm
ARGH THIS IS SO LAME.
CAN’T THEY MAKE THIS ILLEAGEL OR COUNTER IT SOMEHOW!?
DAMMIT DO SOMETHING NINTENDO - 06.30.06 2:34 pm
we are guinea pigs.
the big n knew that this day would come.
and i wouldnt be suprised if they were collecting data to help assist them in making better countermeasures for the future.
kefka - 06.30.06 2:38 pm
I always sucked at MPH, which is why I gave up playing online. I always got my ass handed to me. But now I have two choices.
1) learn these cheats and exploit them
2) just sell the game, seeing as how it’s gotten me nowhere.
I’m going for the latter (I never EVER cheat in a Nintendo game. No real fan exploits Nintendo’s franchises)
Marc - 06.30.06 2:50 pm
This is probably why Nintendo doesn’t want some of the bigger DS games that are comming later this year, to go online.
Think about it. How would a hacker be able to cheat in Mario Hoops? Maybe he’d make Infinite fouls against you, or more points (coins) per basket. And even more sinister things.
And that sucks seeing as how I wanted the first Mario Sport title to be online.
Marc - 06.30.06 2:55 pm
^And what about Starfox? A good cheat would be to….wait, I could be giving potential hackers ideas. I’ll stop now.
Marc - 06.30.06 2:57 pm
LSK - Yup, wall glitch, the person jumps into a wall somehow. You can see their weapon as they fire at you. But you can’t fire at them. I think the level was Sic transit or Sanctorus. Ah well the game was good while it lasted.
TK-Linx - 06.30.06 3:12 pm
That really sucks, big time.. >.>
krono6 - 06.30.06 3:14 pm
where can i get this hack?
me - 06.30.06 4:44 pm
Honestly I don’t see the big deal. If someone cheats, leave the game and play someone else. Use your “friend” code the way it was intended.
What does it matter if a cheater beats you and it hurts your ranking? Were you planning on depositing your Metroid score at the bank or something?
Kids, get some perspective.
amanaplan - 06.30.06 4:45 pm
^ Not everyone’s friend owns a DS. Like me for example. All my friends own a PSP, none of them realize that good games are what the DS is about. So I *can’t* use my friend code the way it was intended.
“What does it matter if a cheater beats you and it hurts your ranking?”
In a scense, people that care about their score see this as the ultimate FPS competition. This is Nintendo’s world famous franchise, and people want to see who’s the best in the world (hence the score tracking on NWC).
excuse my spelling.
Marc - 06.30.06 4:55 pm
We work Hard playing, we improve our accuracy, we’ve earned our place in the throne(leaderboards), and now they’re just going to let hackers with no skill take over?
This is seriously messed up.
LitoJ - 06.30.06 5:00 pm
My enemies use all of this all the time. I’m always waaayyy better than them yet I always lose…
You believe me, don’t you?
Sagan - 06.30.06 5:19 pm
The game has been ruined……..
Nintendofreak - 06.30.06 5:57 pm
The saddest part, Nintendo can’t do anything about it.
If only Nintendo had firm-ware of somesort like PSP. That would be great. It’s a shame Nintendo didn’t go with anything of that sort. Now we have to deal with hackers. I swear, I have alread encountered 5 hackers in Tetris. I found a new type of hack also. One not so obvious. You can have blocks go through other blocks, rather than just receiving a constant supply of blue tall pieces. It’s not as obvious, but if you pay close attention to the top screen you can easily see who’s hacking. In Metroid you have no way of telling at all, which is depressing. Some how Nintendo must make cheat-proof games. It’s their only way. These games are doomed for the rest of their existance.
Cameron - 06.30.06 6:44 pm
I want it.

I hate Online Cheaters…..I don’t Care if people do it offline…..But Online, Where it Hurts Everyone Else Is Quite Low.

Sounds like fun to me.
Anyone got a link to it? Cheating kicks ass.
Xizer - 06.30.06 8:29 pm
I think that Nintendo isn’t trying to detect the hackers because they’re collecting data on how people hack and who is hacking so they can stop future Wii online games from being hacked. I swear to god if i see one single tiny hack in any game on the Wii i will find where that hacker lives and blow his brains out with the annihalator beam.
nerd_jacob - 06.30.06 8:34 pm
Nintendo could simply monitor their mac addresses.
Just ban the Mac address for a while. or let all the cheaters play with eachother. or against 5 star invincible bots.
I think they’d have tons of fun.
I just encountered the wall hack thing twice in combat hall. Not fun at all. especially when I’m beating a “five star” payer, and he starts that crap and drops me to 2 stars since I’m right on the line.
beating up cheaters has to a common fantasy.
designerwhite - 06.30.06 9:06 pm
NO!!!! this completely sucks! it was bad ENOUGH with glitchers and d/cers but now . . .
tippsy228 - 06.30.06 9:13 pm
Sweet, another quality hack for the game I love
Let’s hope to see upgrades of this hack in the future
Purplepenii - 06.30.06 10:09 pm
I face A LOT of Wall Glitchers. But don’t let them get to you. Just run and hide somewhere until they figure out that you won’t play like that.
ONCE SOMEONE IS WITHIN THE WALL, THERE IS NO POINT TRYING TO SHOOT THEM.
6a - 06.30.06 11:35 pm
Well if you’re Slyux, just built a triangle around them, this is how I killed a couple of guys that did that to me.
But…the hacking thing is gay. Many of us worked really hard to get where we’re at.
hova - 07.01.06 12:13 am
this trainer is lots of fun folks.
don’t complain
? - 07.01.06 12:45 am
After encountering cheaters in both MK and Tetris, I feel Nintendo needs to do something about it… The MAC address ban is good and it should be PERMENANT. If you can’t play fair, don’t play at all.
dj - 07.01.06 1:27 am
There’s nothing fun about this
This is a serious problem, and not only will it hurt a person’s hard work, but it will also ruin the fun for everyone.
Supporters can go *smooch* themselves now.
DANGIT DO SOMETHING NINTENDO - 07.01.06 1:38 am
Yeah, being an A-Hole must be lots of fun… think how pleasant and boring the world would get if it wasn’t.
the only problem with a permanent mac address ban would be if someone sold their system - so a month should be fine - providing the cheaters can be detected and ejected quickly.
designerwhite - 07.01.06 3:04 am
Well Nintendo could solve this, we’re not playing direct games here. everything runs through Gamespys network. If they detect something foul is going on they could certainly monitor it, MAC addresses, strange code flying to and fro. Nintendo can stop it and they probably will after they build a Valve style anti-cheat system.
jimmi - 07.01.06 7:57 am
it’s like supporting everyone’s right to own a GUN. Sure, maybe you should be able to “protect” your family (or at least give little billy the chance to blow off his own foot), but you can be sure that for 10 apples there’s a couple of lemons. If you ask me, which you didn’t, I’d say take away people’s right to their guns for the greater good. Same goes for homebrew and flash carts. At least until something that’s more than a simple novelty becomes available for those “staunch” homebrew supporters, and I know my opinion is subjective.
Ry - 07.01.06 9:07 am
I agree with that MAC address ban that designerwhite pointed out. It would be easy and pretty much costless for Nintendo. I’m sure that they can figure out who’s cheating, just look at someones history. If someone, who has a history of being average, suddenly gets to a 4 or 5 star rating, that person is probably a cheater.
Then they could just ban them form Wi-Fi for a while. That system would work. However I am worrying about the Wii. With all the components in it, it’s been said that the Wii will be the ultimate hack system. I hope this doesn’t happen.
Marc - 07.01.06 10:01 am

Omfg, I’m 4 stars by playing honestly. I could live with them levitating and infinite missiles(Unless they’re Samus)and infinite UA(Unless they’re Sylux or Trace)and infinite health would kill me. I think I fought one of these people. I made headshots like crazy with imperialist and they lived. They had 5 stars with Trace and sucked at shooting me. Annoying noobs!!!!

tear gas - 07.02.06 1:53 am
I played multiplayer once with three other guys in DS to DS mode. No cheating and great fun!
I suppose that means some of us actually would have to go outside and meet people who have DS’ as well.
blackcrow - 07.02.06 2:54 am
MAC address ban for a month may be a bit harsh… perhaps a couple weeks, to give them consequences for cheating… also, the thing with a player suddenly jumping could just mean they played a bunch of really high ranked people at first, practiced a bit, then came out on wifi much improved from where they were. I honestly would hate to be banned just because I’ve greatly improved recently. just trying to throw out some possible “problems” with nintendo trying to implement these suggestions.
Milo - 07.02.06 12:25 pm
“True Nintendo fans” is meaningless, otherwise nobody would care if they played against and lost to cheaters, aka “not real Nintendo fans”. It’s not the cheating that really bothers people, it’s the losing.
Furthermore it reeks of the No True Scotsman fallacy.
amanaplan - 07.02.06 2:31 pm
You don’t cheat online unless you’re scum. Full Stop.
I just don’t get how winning is enjoyable when you can’t lose, sure killing hapless players might be funny the first few times, but don’t they get bored of it after a while. Being the scum that they are, obviously not.
They need to be banned and banned now. Sure I prefer to play against friends in the same room, but the online is there for times when you don’t have that option, and I like online to be just as fun.
“Same goes for homebrew and flash carts. At least until something that’s more than a simple novelty becomes available for those “staunch” homebrew supporters, and I know my opinion is subjective.” - RY
You’re opinion is not only very subjective (well aren’t all opinions) but quite selfish as well. The homebrew community pour large portions of their time into helping each other with whatever they may be doing, to take that right away from them because as side effect of it results in a slight nuisance to you is just selfish. There are good hacks and trainers too, like the one that allows online play in MKDS on any track, rather than the lackluster selection that is offered officially.
TSPhoenix - 07.02.06 8:54 pm
First of all, the people who complain about the wall glitch are like the people who whine about snaking in MKDS. The behavior exists, so you can either not use it and only play within the lower strata of players (all of whom don’t use it) or you can take advantage of it and end up playing against much more accomplished players. I haven’t played MPH online yet because I suck at deathmatches, but in MKDS I chose the former route.
As for the actual trainer-using cheaters, within weeks they’ll all be at the top of the ranks and either Nintendo will figure something out, or what I mentioned above will be the case once again…. you’ll have the upper strata of players who all use cheats (which will get very boring for them since no one will ever be able to die in their games) and the lower strata of everyone else. So this is just a transitional period… if it really bothers you, stop playing MPH online for a few months and it will shake itself out.

AMANAPLAN WROTE - They don’t do it to ruin your experience, they do it to have their own kind of fun. Do you think someone brings a 5th ace to the card table because he wants you to cry or because he wants to win?
- Yes. It’s called raging. It’s quite common. Some cheat to win, some to make others mad. Some people want attention and don’t care how they get it.
AMANAPLAN WROTE - Honestly I don’t see the big deal. If someone cheats, leave the game and play someone else. Use your “friend” code the way it was intended.
What does it matter if a cheater beats you and it hurts your ranking? Were you planning on depositing your Metroid score at the bank or something?
Kids, get some perspective.
You shouldn’t have to leave a game in the first place, nor should you have to confine your wifi experience to people you can more easily sit in a room playing with… It may come as a shocker to you, but some people dislike cheaters because it’s wrong. You calling them kids doesn’t make you any cooler, or their complaints any less important. Cheating stinks.
AMANAPLAN WROTE - “True Nintendo fans” is meaningless, otherwise nobody would care if they played against and lost to cheaters, aka “not real Nintendo fans”. It’s not the cheating that really bothers people, it’s the losing.
You again? I had no idea you were making the same posts that bothered me until now… And yes, it actually is the cheating that bothers most people. Games are designed to have a set of rules that all abide. People who circumvent the rules bother those that follow the rules. The outcome of the game is of no consequence. Honest players beat cheaters and still hate the violation….

Bullshit, I am a huge Dreamcast supporter, and just because certain people who happen to be part of the homebrew community make hacks, doesn’t mean the rest have bad intentions. Many people just wanna make games (as is the case with the majority of the DC scene). Maybe you should play Cave Story, one of the most popular homebrew games in japan.
Blaming the whole homebrew community for hacks is BS, and it’d be like me saying all germans supported the Nazis.
You can’t just generalize a large group of people.
