Is the PS3 as big as the Atari 5200? Because I have one, and if it is, that’s just insane. No system has been as big as the 5200, from what I know. It’s bigger than the original XBOX, for goodness sakes!

Isn’t the Wii suppsoed to be redesigned and even smaller by launch? I remember that from E3 2005, I hope Nintendo isn’t going to get lazy and say “meh, it’s small enough”.

The Wii IS small enough. Why does everything need to be microsized? Granted this isn’t like the DS Lite, where you have to hold it in your hands, but the idea of losing a console is sad to me. Concider this, I’m 6′ 3″. I can palm a basketball. I can not comfortably play a DS Lite or the SP. If Nintendo continues the trend it’s going now, I’ll never be able to play Nintedo games after 2012.

Oh and since the Wii isn’t upside down, I assume that it is not being pinned.

IAN M: I’m 6′4″, and I can palm a basketball as well. That said, I still enjoy using my GB Micro. I’m not playing on it for 4 hours at a stretch, and it’s marginally awkward, but let’s just say that it beats the tar out of an N-Gage QD. Not that I own one of those, or anything…

Speaking of the N-Gage, I saw someone at my college with an N-Gage the DAY it came out. When they cost 300 dollars. And you basically had to carry around a screw driver to change the game.
And it’s not that I can’t play the SP or the Lite, they just aren’t as comfortable, and I have a tendancy to overplay my handheld systems. In fact I’ve barely bought a console game outside of a few SRPGs for the PS2 since 2001. So comfort is a big deal to me.

The Wii could be the size of a contact lense for all I care; it’s the human interface that I need life-sized. I too am 6′ 3″ (previously, I’ve worried that the nunchuk cable won’t be long enough), and while I can’t palm a basketball (as far as I know — they’re the orange ones right?) my long spider-like fingers had a difficult time playing the demo Micro in Kanazawa.

No. I have the Wiimote I made recently of posterboard (like everything else) that I’m holding onto since it took so much more effort, and a crushed papercraft Revmote that’s not worth including.

I’m with all the big handed people here. I’m only 5′10″, but I’ve got ape like hands. The Phat DS Is decent, but you’ve still got to mangle your hands around it or hold it with your fingertips. The DS lite is impossible to hold, I can litterally set it in my palm and play with my pinky and thumb (The same way I used to do it with the GBA SP.) it’s much to small for me. I’ve been screwing around with disassembling a Gamecube controller and cutting/sanding into it to create a lock in system for the Phat DS To go into. (I think I can actually use the shoulder button’s from the controller too.)

Once I get it all completed I’ll send some pictures to 4CR.

On what planet is the PS3 beautiful? It looks like the byproduct of an old answering machine mating with a Foreman grill, and then being beaten with a stick for being so ugly.

The models are all glossy posterboard.

And I’m not making a 360 lol. Though I do intend to find a friend who has one (someone’s got to have one…) and take pics with all three before the weekend’s out.

wy are these companies making systems with curving sides?!?! last time i checked, hard drives, ciruit boards, and disk drives are FLAT. they are wasting space. the ps3 doesnt even look good with its homer simpson esque features. this… thing, will not replace my pc, my pc is already powerful enough to play any game on the market, is much more flexible, and completely upgradable.

You do realize if Wii get smaller you don’t hold the system…you sit it down and attach a controller…now I know it may sounds crazy but all you huge guys must not realize that, and looks like you need to get to the gym…

They can make the Wii as small as they want- it will just be sitting there, so the smaller, the better as far as I’m concerned :oops: They should really be focosing on the comfort of ther remote, though.

The PS3 might be curved on the top to provide for better ventilation and to prevent people from putting stuff on top of it…

the wii compared to the ps3 is like the comparison between a 1 one metre cubed box of tnt and a nuke. The nuke is smaller and packs a much bigger bang that the pathetic box of tnt pfft.

maybe sony should just add a new tv to the top of the ps3 to make it fit better with the lounge room. Then it doesn’t matter how fat the ps3 is because it means you get a bigger screen.

Do you get more memory from a 20 gb hard drive or from a 60 gb hard drive? Do you get a bigger explosion from a grenade or from an atomic bomb. You see bigger means better dumbasses. If you want a wii might as well buy a gameboy pocket, only around 10 bucks and with better graphics.

firstly: the wii’s specs average more or less to what the original xbox’s specs were; it can’t have GBP graphics. at worst, xbox graphics; but then again, the producers working for the games on the wii ARE trying to use older technology to show up next gen…

secondly: the power supply for the wii is estimated to be more or less the same size as the gamecube’s, and i must say, that’s pretty friggen small. and for the lot of us that are lucky, we actually get to never see the power supply because we have everything behind a cabinet.
thirdly: an h-bomb has more power, so we might as well say a ship of ship of nitroglycerine can’t compare to an h-bomb.
fourthly: i like the people above talking about how nintendo should be focusing on the comfort of the controller; no need to worry, we(as in all the third party design teams out there)’ll have controllers released after wii’s initial release faster than you can say onomatopoeia.
fifthly: i’m not sure that listing ordinal numbers then adding -ly makes up proper words…

In my Social Studies class we learned that the Japanese houses are small, and some of the rooms are used for multiple purposes (ie. livingroom->bedroom). With something huge like that it will be very unappealing to the Japanese.

nintendo has always been different with their controls. N64 had a crazy controller that most poeple still love. they had a pokemon game with a mic. A FRIGEN MIC! they were the first 2 bring in runbling controlers (i think). now the DS has touch screens and im sure their beating the shit outa PSP in sales.

PS3 is the same. its exactly the same as every other system sony has ever realised. well, a lot more ugly. the only real difference is graphics. oh, thats so great, now we spend more money on a new SONY hi def TV. come on….

Wii will dominate the market for so many reasons.
1. It’s cheap.
2. Theres 1 package, the Wii. PS3 and Xbox had the basic and the premium package (or whatever). it sort of descriminates the people will less money.

but there is a better thing for this other game a touch-table…where the game is beamed on the table, and by using your voice to command and your hand to navigate.

so i dont know if games like C&C would be great….although using the Wii-mote like a pointer is not a bad idea. but i think what you are saying will be made for the Wii ( C&C generals uses low poly models so it doesnt need high video specs)

HD needs allot of calculations( the higher screen will be set the more calculations required) the wii doesnt have this kind of HD processing and allot of games will be rendert at low screen resolution. but it still looks great…even if it looked like a GC software( look at resident evil 4….dont tell me thats a ugly game.)
Ds has new kind of gameplay and im really impressed by the games. so i cant w8 for the Wii.

I honestly believe that PS3 isn’t even going to look that great compaired to Wii. Sony and Microsoft are going for pure power, and Wii isn’t. we all know. But did you know that Xbox and Gamecube were very close in power. Nintendo lives by the famous line “work smarter, not harder”. The gamecube wasn’t that powerful but it was completely optimized for it’s purpose.

I have a gamecube emulator (so sue me, my gamecube broke) and even with 3.0GHz and a nice graphics card, its almost impossible to emulate even at half the speed of gamecube. They may have more power but nintendo will put 100% of it’s graphics card to work! come on sony, are you REALLY going to ever fully use 7 cores?

Does anyone ever look at facts? I believe that the wii is best from all of the things iv’e heard. It has custom processors for it only!! that means that it should be able to do the most with what it has. ps3 used multipurpose cores. That means that when you play a ps3, you might be playing on some computer processors that were stuffed in a ps3 and work with blue ray. is it really next gen to play on a pc. i want a totally new experience that was made for one purpose, to play the best, most invented video games on the planet. (Props to Nintendo!!)

I recently saw 2 videos (on youtube.com) where they took a Gamecube, PS2 and an Xbox and they smashed the shit outa them. In both movies the gamecube came out on top. (the ps2 died after having a wieght dropped on top of it and was always knocked out first by far.)

I decided to test this. i loaded up a copy of animal crossing (the only game that works cuz my laser dies after 3min of being used) and proceeded to TAKE APART THE GAMECUBE WHILE PLAYING! I took off the cover, the controllers/mem card. then i removed the CD, the front curcit board (where u plug the controllers) and then still removed the curcit board on top where the laser is. It was still running the whole time! Then I put it all back together and got back to some fishing

I can’t help but look at a companies past to predict their future. And if the past is any indication of the future, you prob shouldn’t drop anything on your ps3.
