Sure, we Nintendo dorks have always thought about playing our N64s on the go - especially during its hayday. Which truly sane N64 nerd wouldn’t dream about playing a few rousing rounds of Mario Kart 64 while they’re driving with Interstate traffic?! Luckily for us, a man by the name of Marshall put his brain to this century-old conundrum and came up with the L64, a truly portable N64.
If you’re not content with just gawking at the thing, he even goes through a step-by-step on how he made it. This is just so cool.

Wow.
This is better than the NDS!
Shinji-kun - 06.16.06 4:18 pm
woot! its like a pirate time machine!
victor newman - 06.16.06 4:19 pm
We took that one step further, we have Smash Bros. in our car.. My friend’s mp4 player acts as a TV screen with the ash tray powering the GameCube and 3-4 people playing.
Whoever has shotgun has an advantage from the backseat players because there is a comfortable viewing angle and less fighting to see the screen.
This all of course is highly illegal, loud and distracts the driver.
We are responsible I assure you!

“Wow.
This is better than the NDS!”
You ARE kidding, right?
I love the N64, but not THAT much. I’d prefer a DS lite over this. It’s too bulky. However ,graphics wise, this kicks the DS’s ass! But I’d still take wireless gaming over cords.
I can’t wait til like 10 years from now, someone’s gonna make a portable Wii.
Marc - 06.16.06 4:35 pm
Well done! This looks very professional. I cannot believe it is using the same hardware as the N64 but it is much smaller and powered by batteries and has a small LCD screen. Seriously he should win something. Or be paid to mass produce these - I would buy one.
TK-Linx - 06.16.06 4:38 pm
Thats pretty damn cool. But how the hell can you play 4 player games on that small screen. Goldeneye was bad enough with 4 people on a regular TV screen. Unless that also hooks up the the TV.
NoBullet - 06.16.06 4:44 pm
Impressive it is, but what’s the point? It’s a great system, but would you actually use this thing? Check out the size ratio, that thing is big. It’s definitely not a portable system with that size, and I can’t imagine a battery life worthy of taking this thing out of the house. Just grab a DS, it’s much smaller, much easier to get into the games, and for the most part the titles are of better quality. If you wanna play old games, get a PSP and play ports to your heart’s content.
Dejital - 06.16.06 4:45 pm
Pretty neat. I have to wonder what people are thinking when they think the N64 had better graphics than the DS, though lol.
Tony - 06.16.06 4:57 pm
WAW that’s awesome, I actually could buy it, and it looks great, a mix between the N64 and the GBA, I love it, and buy the way the N64 is still my favourite console ever.
MaCraMaN - 06.16.06 5:10 pm
Three cheers for piracy and nostalgia!

“I can’t wait til like 10 years from now, someone’s gonna make a portable Wii.”
Can you imagine all the 12 year old ass-hats swinging something like that around in places like the mall, attached to their mothers hips? really, thats too funny.
masamunes_slave - 06.16.06 5:26 pm
Now that is a pretty “slick” lookin’ device.
Mekman - 06.16.06 5:30 pm
That is soo cool. Now, stuff a dreamcast in a portable so i can plays Skies of Arcadia on the go!
Or…are there any dreamcast emulators fer PSP, cause if there are i may have a reason to buy one. But ill paint it with the flag from Skies and call it my Skies of Arcadia Player.
Mesa want portable skiiiies
(PS. Overworks, make a ds skies!!!! or Wii? Come on at least PS3!)

Hey ummmm…. the link broke
Marc - 06.16.06 6:25 pm
Yeah it dosen’t work for me either…
Nintendofreak - 06.16.06 6:37 pm
Does it come with some kind of mirror array / flip up screen / stand, so you can play multiplayer games with controllers plugged in?
Matt - 06.16.06 6:49 pm
Too bad Ben Heck and Dkap made one a few years ago, huh?
Conn - 06.16.06 7:18 pm
Mirrors added. Try those!
Mitch - 06.16.06 7:20 pm
Nice! Thanx for the pix ham!
yanipheonu - 06.16.06 7:23 pm
Ummm….sorry, but the mirrors aren’t helping. The link is still broke. But maybe it’s just my computer (altough i doubt it).
Sorry that i’m being a pain in the ass guys.
Marc - 06.16.06 8:03 pm
It resembles this Famicon one…

Freakin’ awesome. But it’s too big for a portable. As of what I’ve seen(and I’ve seen almost all of the home-2-portable hacks) this is the best so far, with the exception of the all-in-1 NES consoles.
Dym - 06.16.06 8:19 pm
I added some Coral Cache links. They’re slow, but the link got Digg’d. Might be the best bet.
Mitch - 06.16.06 8:26 pm
^Thanks Mitch (especially since i’m being such a pain) the link finally worked. For me at least.
Marc - 06.17.06 9:27 am
I understand making portable systems compact, but the DS Lite is TOO compact.
In fact, I am taking mine back. It has severly hindered my performance in MPH (Hunters).
The thumpad is so small now that movement sometimes ceases, or is faulty. Also, the Stylus is too BIG, and is a bit clonky.
That had an analog stick, and the N64 supports more advanced operations than the NDS.
Touch Screen? Whoopde freaking doo.
Majora’s Mask>Gimmicky games
Shinji-kun - 06.17.06 11:41 am
thats the most random and retarded comment ive ever seen on 4cr shinji-kun. ocarina > majoras mask x 10.
Dave_C - 06.18.06 7:33 am
Ocarina of Time is overrated. Majora’s Mask improves on it in everyway. Not only are the dungeons better, they are less repetitive than their OOT counterparts.
Shinji-kun - 06.18.06 1:54 pm
I agree with Shinji-kun about Majora’s Mask being better than Ocarina of Time, but the Nintendo DS is better than the Nintendo 64. There have been games that use the touch-screen and weren’t gimmicky.
Leon - 06.18.06 5:07 pm
Where is the digital directional cross?
stregatto81 - 06.21.06 9:17 am
i want one !
david mena - 06.21.06 10:47 am
Looks Ok I suppose, Cool that you could take it places but I mean the actual N64 console doesn’t weigh a lot, Really good concept and the design is nice though seems to fit everything in there really well, Now if it has a TV Out connector at the back then that is pretty awesome, it would be like the PSOne is to the PSX, totally new design that gives the N64 a cool new look. Well Done though, Excellent Job, You really cant fault it from that picture

LOL! As for the first post on here, How the hell can you compare it to an NDS! lol its like comparing an Xbox to a Nintendo Wii
Sorry just had to let it out of my system
Devastation - 06.29.06 6:26 pm
jajaja that’s is great, it’s like a dream but i prefer the NDS but it’s great anyway
I can’t wait til like 10 years from now, someone’s gonna make a portable Wii.
