Japanese magazine Famitsu shoots a full clip of screenshots and previews for over half a dozen Nintendo games in its latest issue. Starfox Command, Mario Basket 3 on 3, Metal Saga, and Tamagotchi 2 make for a diverse Nintendo DS lineup. While Starfox’s online entrance to the handheld field is interesting enough, the scans did a real barrel roll on us by revealing a female love interest for Slippy. Looks like the Brokeback Lilypad rumors weren’t true after all.
As for consoles, Swing Golf Pangya put down three solid pages for the Wii. Even the GameCube manages proper representation, gracing Famitsu with Donkey Kong Barrel Jet Race and Super Paper Mario, two titles we haven’t heard much about since E3.
Everyone’s favorite videogame journalist, Tim Rogers, has a synopsis of the issue if you’re looking for anything beyond screenshots (e.g. features, sales figures.).

Both Super Paper Mario and Mario hoops look awesome. Great to see Mario in some more quaility titles after a while.
But dear God…. Slippy Toad has a girlfriend?!!
Lylat is doomed if those two ever breed.

Super Paper Mario is amazing. I can’t wait for that title. Also, Starfox has really captured my fancy. Good stuff.

Maybe the Star Fox Command designers read this VG Cats comic: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=103

Slippy? Girlfriend? Can anyone say “beard?” It’s like the spoony bard all over again.

Again, Daisy tries to garner the affections of her former lover in vain. After her rejection by Mario in favor for Princess Peach, Daisy drowned out her sorrows in sports and other activities, hoping that one day, Mario would notice her at one of these events. Sadly, no matter what kart race, soccer game, or basketball tournament she won in honor of her lost love, Mario would always return to Princess Peach’s bed. Daisy would return home to an empty apartment, look into a mirror, and say “Hi, I’m Daisy!” until she fell asleep.
…Anyway, Super Paper Mario looks great, and for some strange reason, I want to Pagnya.

Is that Devil May Cry’s Dante playing Pangya Golf - or have I missed something somewhere..?
regmundio - 06.09.06 1:37 pm

Hasn’t Nintendo whored out Mario enough? Somebody had better check their plumbing.
Jonathan - 06.09.06 3:01 pm
I think the better question is: Who cares? There’s a freaking Mario Platformer in there.
Games look awesome, per always. Shame 3on3 won’t be Wi-Fi though. Wasn’t it said that it would be online back when announced last year, or is my memory foggy?
Skyelan - 06.09.06 3:24 pm
Paper Mario still looking good.
zooba - 06.09.06 3:40 pm
Starfox Command looks down right amazing. The story’s going to be good in this one, I can tell.

YEAH I always thought slippy was playing for the other team.
Perhaps he’s into both.

I played Metal Saga, I thought it was Metal Slug related.
Unfortunately it was an RPG entirely in Japanese so I didn’t understand what to do, but the bad thing was the touch screen control. You can’t use the D-Pad to move so you have to point where you want to go…. It’s much worse than Animal Crossing touch controls.

Okay, so maybe Zelda won’t be the last hit for the Gamecube. Super Paper Mario has got me giddy like a…like a…giddy…getting…thing.
Michael Tucker - 06.09.06 4:11 pm
star fox looks great
Dann - 06.09.06 5:12 pm
Everything looks okay. WTF at Metal Saga, an RPG with tanks, not even cool looking fantastical ones. A WTH goes out to the donkey konga bongo racing game. WHERE THE HECK IS DONKEY KONGA 3!!!??? As far as I know the last two did well, wat the heck Nintendo! Oh well could be worse,
could be sony.
yanipheonu - 06.09.06 5:36 pm
Metal Saga is more than just tanks… it’s actually pretty damn weird. The PS2 version proves that pretty much instantly, but it’s not for every one. I hope Atlus is interested in the DS one, myself.

Pangya is getting me giddy. Geez, that’s not proper golfing attire ladies!
duncan - 06.09.06 5:38 pm
The 2D-3D mechanics of super paper mario are a great idea. I am shocked that it took two full generations of 3D platforming to think of it.

Daisy is teh yum yumz.

Oh hand drawn 2D Mario artwork, how I missed you. You gotten a bit stylish since I last seen you…have you been hanging out with Tetsuya Nomura?
DeAngelo Guillory - 06.09.06 11:37 pm
Why the hell would Mario Hoops *not* be WiFi? I thought it looked cool - kinda NBA Jam-style - but if it’s not WiFi then there’s not much point, is there?
Dean - 06.10.06 12:37 am
As far as Slippy being a guy/girl debate, isn’t it true that frogs or toads actually change their sex during their life?
Makes sense to me.
Grupstra - 06.10.06 12:40 am
Star Fox Command seems to have a lot of…er, changes to the series.
Fox and Crystal are “on the rocks”
Peppy looks to have taken command in the Cornerian Army
Falco’s gone “Cowboy” with his specialized Falcon Flyer.
Slippy fights gay rumors.
Maybe it’s about time Nintendo considered giving this game its own animated series (CGI is preferred). A lot of crap happens between those games…
DeAngelo Guillory - 06.10.06 6:57 am
Kasumi in Pangaya Golf. Oh boy. Anyways, how was Mario hoops 3vs3, i’d like to ehar more about that game.
